Differential type and oil change?

I'm planning to change my gearbox and differential oil this weekend and I've started to confuse myself about the type I need for the differential :dizzy:

I've bought the Redline 75W90 GL5 gear oil, which I have previously used in the diff of other cars and been very happy with. However, I know it isn't compatible with all types of limited slip differentials and the more I read, the more I confuse myself!

Do I even have an LSD on my car (2006 3.0si coupe)? or is there any easy way to identify if I have? If I do have one, will this oil be suitable and if not, what do I need instead?

Normally, a quick search online or on the forums gives a quick answer to these things, but BMWs "sealed for life" policy seems to make this much harder.

Any thoughts, would be greatly appreciated!

only the m`s came with LSD

RED LINE SYNTHETIC GEAR OIL 75W-90 GL5
1 US QUART < thats what i used in my 3.0si, mine didnt have a drain plug so had to suck old fluid out (hence the filled for life)

Brilliant - Thanks for that. Thats what I had originally thought when I bought the oil, but then I got it into my head that the LSDs were an option on some of the non M cars.... not sure where I got that idea from! :?

Mine doesn't have a drain plug either, so looks like I'll be having fun with some hose and an extraction pump :-|

what years your car scooba, mines coupe 57 plate

had it on ramps looked everywhere, but when u compared it to otherbmw pics, mine was like ones id seen on 330`s only has a fill hole :/

Mar 2006 build date E85 facelift. Different final drive would seem odd. Fill was at the back at an angle and drain at the side.

ye fill on mine was in usual place but if you looked at side mine was like this



the back looked more like this, just that right hand side had no bolt to remove

Very odd, RealOEM shows quiet a few different options. Interestingly it didn't list the plugs even though they were present.
