Difference between Bluetooth and USB plugin diagnostic units

Hi guys,

Hoping somebody can help me. I want to purchase a unit so that I can read error codes relating to warning lights that appear for my Z4. I don't know what else you can do by plugging your laptop into the car with one of these USB units, but am considering these two items :-

- This is a Bluetooth unit that plugs into the diagnostic port

- This is a more traditional USB unit that connects the car to a laptop

My question is, is there any difference in functionality between these units or do they all do exactly the same thing, with functionality coming from the software you have on your computer?

If they are the same spec they''ll do the same thing. I have both types and there is no discernible difference except one's not attached by a wire so slightly easier to use.

Personally, I think you will experience more problems trying to connect via bluetooth so you may as well hard wire. If you are thinking iPhone etc with bluetooth, think software prices first.

PC ones were fairly cheap, good wireless software seemed a lot more when I looked a while back.

Just my opinion :)
