Differance?

whats the differance between an SE and an SI, i assume one is more powerful with the 2.5 Si being 218BHP and the SE only 177BHP but are there any other differances?

I think you are getting a little confused..

'SE' is the specification of the car. The alternative to this is 'SPORT'.

'Si' is the engine.. The alternative to this is the 'i'

'SE' is available in both 'Si' and 'i' engines where as the 'SPORT' I beleive is only available with the 'Si' engine.

Confusing I know.

Just to make things a little more confusing the 'Si' engines and 'SPORT' specification are only available post facelift (2006 onwards). It was possible to spec the sports seats and suspensions seperately on an SE pre-facelift but the designation was still SE I beleive.

Below is a little timeline thing that hopefully explains things a little more:

2.5i (192 BHP) : 03/2003 - 11/2005 (only SE Spec)
3.0i (231 BHP) : 03/2003 - 11/2005 (only SE Spec)
2.2i (170 BHP) : 10/2003 - 11/2005 (only SE Spec)
2.0i (150 BHP) : 05/2005 (SE and SPORT Spec)
2.5i (177 BHP) : 03/2006 (only SE Spec)
2.5si (218 BHP) : 03/2006 (SE and SPORT Spec)
3.0si (265 BHP) : 03/2006 (SE and SPORT Spec)
3.2 M (343 BHP) : 03/2006 (M Spec)

Hope this helps clear things up a little bit for you.

I have seen facelift 2.5i sport..... Sport indicates the trim... But I guess you could spec an se to be identical to a sport.

Si's all have the sport button.....

all facelifts were available as SE or Sport regardless of engine type.

2.5si Sport is what I used to have, and served me well for 4 years.

think i should be able to get a good 2.5SI sport for £10-£11K? with less than 40,000 on the clock?

:? On what basis are the insurance company saying that ? Seems a bit harsh...

That's a great price - paid more than that for an 06 3.0si with higher mileage 2 months ago... Auto, and slightly higher spec, and seemed a good deal vs the market price at the time, but still  I'll be better informed next time round thanks to this font of knowledge.

I had the same problem with my insurance a few years ago..

My renewal is in Jan, and i wanted to buy my car in Sept... my provider then was Adrien Flux and they wouldnt cover me, so i would lose 9 months no claims (when i was only 4 years no claims) as i had to cancel and create a new policy....

I waited till Jan in the end... as it wasnt worth losing the 9 months i had built up.

you have just described my EXACT problem! im with Adrian Flux as well. i even thought that if i couldnt have the BMW i would run around in my second car a 1985 MK1 VW Polo (did the Scally Rally 2010 in her) and they said they wouldnt insure me on that either because of the low value! couldnt beilve it! so now im stuck with my current car. Corsa 1.8 SRi
