Dif drain plug and oil quantity

Hi

Does anyone know what size across flats the diff drain plug is on a 2004 manual 3.0i is please? I've read 12mm and 14mm from various sources.

Also does anyone know the fill quantity of oil from empty?

Cheers

Andy

Hi,

Usually, the diff oil is at the right level when it just starts to trickle out of the drain hole as you're filling, with the car itself being on a level surface / ramp.

Sorry - don't know the drain plug size.

Just did a quick Google search and got a couple of useful links. Reminded me that I'd actually bookmarked the first one!

This one is quite useful, and number 30 is relevant to your query. It seems 1 US Quart ( = 0.95 litres) is required for the 2.5. Maybe a bit more on bigger engines, but you should definitely be okay with 1.5l.

Just another link that came up:

I'm guessing you know it's originally a lifetime oil, and as such shouldn't need changing, but I've also heard of a few problems being cured with new diff oil.

Hope it goes okay!

Cheers for that mate

Yea I saw that and thought I might just get 2 x 1L bottles from halfrauds (trade card present of course!)

Yea I do; I'm doing the SIB for greasing the diff input flange this weekend and so thought I'd be prepared to change the oil / top up.

Thanks mate

can someone tell me which oil / fluid is the correct one?

For the diff, I think it's 75w 90??

what about for the manual transmission?? I normally use the red bottle (I think it's dextron 3) auto/power steering fluid, would that be OK???

cheers
