Dice Mediabridge?

Anyone on here running the Dice system on an E85/86 with nav?

While I love the Intravee, I am getting fed up with the Alpine's limitations for larger capacity iPods. I'm thinking a USB connected drive might be the answer. A large capacity SSD is quite affordable now. The Alpine USB adapter that would fit the Intravee has very poor reviews so that's not really a solution.

I also think the Dice units support A2DP Bluetooth streaming?

Just thinking out loud really...

Used to have the basic DICE unit, Stuart. Was OK, but found it was a bit temperamental at times. Perfectly functional though, and a good entry system for connecting an IPod to the zed.

how much music do you even want in your car?

I find my 16GB ipod touch perfect although I use spotify more than anything and when I park at home it updates over wifi from inside the car or just connect it to my phone as a modem if I want something different that isn't on an offline playlist.

Fine I can't navigate from the Display but I set it to random and drive while enjoying my music.

Seem to recal the DICE solution was not the best.

Might be worth looking at the Dension Solutions.

the intravee would be better if it displayed better. i find it a bit frustrating to find the album i want especially when the titles get cut short.

is it the alpine bit that slows it down then? i dont have that much on the iphone but its enough to need several screens to show it all and its not that fast to update, certainly not that good to use if your driving and wanting to look for something

I've got a Dice Mediabridge running with Nav but I don't use an iPhone so not sure how that will work... although it will work a lot better than with Android as the whole unit is geared up towards Apple.

I did try streaming my music via USB but found the controls to navigate folders etc very clumsy so now I stream my music via Bluetooth from my Samsung S3 and use the MFSW controls for Track Up / Down, Volume Up / Down, Call Answer / Reject and to activate hands-free dialing.

Was having a problem with auto-pairing being lost for a while but I think that was to do with my phone as I used to activate / deactivate Bluetooth on entry and exit but have been leaving Bluetooth on now for a few weeks and no issues with pairing.

Overall Dice works great, streams clearly (the music app I use has graphic settings etc for adjustment) and display is good for showing track info but USB navigation is really clumsily. The manual goes go on about connecting Apple devise only and how to navigate with them as that is what the Mediabridge is gear towards so the interface may be a lot more friendly with Apple.

If you want i can post you over the user manual so you can have a read.

Thanks all.

The Alpine KCA-420i has a limit of 511 or 512 of anything. Songs, albums, artists etc. I have more than enough music to fill a 160GB iPod Classic. Up until recently it had everything I owned on it but the KCA couldn't cope with the numbers so I thought about binning the iPod and putting a USB connected hard drive in. A Solid State Disk makes a lot of sense as they're immune to vibration. The problem is that the Alpine USB module that is supported by the Intravee is also not great.

It's a shame really as there really isn't anything that gives the functionality of the Intravee. It would be nice if it supported some more modern Alpine modules.

Ho Hum.

I recently installed a Dice ( no Nav) and although the car is in the garage I have used it with bluetooth to my Iphone while 'working' on the car. It displays the track names and sounds good on the business radio. Really pleased so far.

Cheers. I'm interested to see what the screen integration on the nav looks like.

That said, perhaps I should just cull my music collection on my iPod...

I have the full fledged DICE cost me a £180... Its good and bad.

I have my iPod classic plugged in which has 60gb of music on I leave it in the glove box and the dice charges it.

Bad points -

Doesn't automatically start playing songs on startup
(Have to skip track to kick it into life)

Aux doesn't work (mine)

Sometimes unresponsive

And I've noticed today streaming audio over BT is only coming thru left speakers... :/

Hope that helps :)

The only reason I didn't put an aftermarket stereo in.. Is because you lose the ability to control the nav unit.

I'll take a pic of mine tomorrow but as I said, because of it being geared up to Apple it may be different and if so, for the better.

Audiovox bought DICE some time ago, so if you are buying a MediaBridge make sure that it is labelled as "Audiovox" and not as DICE.

I have one in my Z4 (which fortunately does not have the built-in satnav) and have been very happy with it.

For those who have been having problems, make sure that you have updated it to the latest (7005) firmware.

zedfourm i think thats the problem ... if you have the nav and pop up screen then the options are limited for what you can install.

is there some sort of complete replacement... i.e. chuck out the whole system and put in an aftermarket one that uses the controls and screen? i know there is for other BMWs but not for the z
