When you normally install you don't have to take the radio out though do you? Where abouts of the wheel cowling is it mounted (i don't think i fully understand where people mean).
 
Didn't take my radio out,the unit plugs into the CD changer cabling, in the boot area. The only cable I had to run from back to the front of the car was the mic cable. The mic is mounted on a small piece of plastic, which fits snuggly into the gap just above the windscreen wiper stalk and the cover. can be seen, but really is not too obtrusive.

Ah i understand now.

I think i will run the bridge into the centre consol by the ash tray. Then can run an Ipod cable to either the centre consol or glove box. I hadden't thought about putting it that low down. But if you can still be heard then thats cool
 
Once this has been done i want to do something about the general audio. I onnly have the basic head unit and 6 speakers, would love to get some better speakers and the subs in the storage area
 
I agree with you on the basic system needing a boost, ket me know how you did it, when you get round to it. I have spent a few hours this afternoon installing Cruise control, but as it is now getting more showery, decided to abandon until weather is better. Steering wheel cowling cut out, and wire all fed through to DME, just need to cut into wiring now, but too dark in the garage, so would rather do it outside, but rain and DME really do not go well together. :)

I was hoping someone else would have done it at some point and i could do a simular audio build.

Ah cruise control, when putting the deposit down on my car that i collect Friday they tried selling me cruise control @ £300 extra, but i knew i could retro fit it at a later date for around £80

I'm not confident with electrics really, so was hoping someone within the south west would be able to give me a hand with fitting it.
 
If the weather had been better it would have been quite a quick job - fitting the CC,for £ 300 is taking the mick, especially when they know what they are doing. Mine cost approx £ 80, and would have been quite a quick job, especially if the weather had been kind. I am sure there is someone in your neck of the woods who could help.
From my conceptions of this forum, the most prolific members are either north of the border, or in the London Area.( waiting for flack). :)
 
I think there are very few west country Z4 forum members, as they would rather be drinking cider!!
For the Mediabridge it is really easy, just plug it in !!
 
Yeah media bridge seems Straight forward, I was referring to the cruise control.

Just before I press buy on a media bridge, are ALL 2007 Z4's pre wired with cd changer cable pre installed?

I have a 2004 2.5i SE with a CD changer located in the central storage area, behind the seats.

Just looking for installation advice: Where is the typical place for the Mediabridge unit to be installed? Glovebox? Storage area where my CD changer currently is? Or in the boot?

If I install the unit in the central storage area or the boot, will I have to run the microphone cable along the transmission tunnel? And where should the microphone be ideally installed?

I have the Mediabridge 1500 unit installed in my center storage. Keep in mind that you have to access the unit a few times per year for software upgrades via mini-USB connector and an internet-connected laptop/PC, so keep the unit handy. Behind the carpet in the trunk would be a pain to access, IMO. Lying loose in the trunk would likely cause damage to the unit with luggage, golf clubs, etc. Plus, there's scant space as it is back there, so I'm not losing any additional territory to that bugger. I pop mine out of the car when I have to upgrade the firmware and bring it inside the house to my PC. The glovebox isn't a bad location, but would require a bit more laying of wire than I wanted to do. I don't use the mic, as I have factory BT.
 
Thanks wiseguy. If I install the MediaBridge in the central storage area behind the seats, does anyone know if the microphone cable is long enough to have the microphone installed in the OEM position (in the light cluster area)? Or will it only reach to the steering wheel cowl area?

I have mine in the CD changer area, and found it easier to mount the mic on the steering wheel cowl. - From what I can remember it was not quite long enough to reach to the overhead location.
I found it easy to install near the wheel, and the sound quality from the mic just here is good, and I am able to be heard loud and clear even at 70+ with roof down.
 
I have installed mine behind the centre console (behind roof buttons) a little velcro to stop it sliding around. Easy enough for me to fish out. Mic is placed near to indicators stalk. It on the dash, squeezed between 2 panels. Held firm and no need to stick anything.

I then fed the USB cable under the centre console towards the storage compartment behind the passenger seat and then pushed an IPod cable in the little hole by the hinges by the centre box and connected it up.

This way iPod is easy to access to use it my hand, kept out the way and DICE doesn't take up any storage space. I can get to t in 5 mins easily
