Diamond key

When I bought my car last month the vendor supplied me with the two original diamond keys that work (open the doors at least) and another one purchased in April from Fairfield Bmw. All new and shiny and in a bmw bag. Trouble is it doesn’t work…..what did he or Fairfield fail to do please? Thank you.

I assume it will unlock the car manually and start it (ie. been cut correctly)
If that is the case then you need to sync it to the car. But you need to do all three together or you'll lose sync in the others.
I wrote this down for someone only last week. i'll dig it out.

Found it:

1. Sit in the car, all doors, bonnet and boot closed.
2. Turn ignition to position 2, then back to off, then remove the key from the ignition.
3. Press and hold the Unlock button on the key, making sure you keep it held down. Now press the Lock button 3 times. You should hear a clunk from the door locks.
Repeat step 3 for each key. (You do not need to do steps 1 or 2 again)

Turn ignition on/off. Test keys.

Thank you. The key came from bmw and looks to be cut correctly. I will check it fits and opens the doors manually Two clarifications - do I start with a good key or the (new) one that doesn’t yet work. And is position 2 the one with all dash lights but no start up?

I don't think it matters which one you start with.
Yes, position two is all lights on but not quite far enough to start.

If it fails to work then you may have to repeat the whole thing just with your two good keys to ensure they work fine.
