Diamond Cut Alloys

Had my lips diamond cut a few months ago and they all seem to have developed some dark vertical lines on them (will try and get some pics) which wont come off with the pressure washer..

Any ideas what these are? How to remove them?

Thanks,

Diamond cut ones are a bugger for this. I had these wheels on my Grande Punto Sporting and 3 of them developed black marks where the lacquer had peeled and water and got inside.

Perhaps worth going back to where they were done and note that they've developed this issue.

does sound like they are lacquered and has got some form of corrosion.

Get a picture up and can see whats going on.....

Could always strip the lacquer away with some nitromors etc.. but wouldnt stay shiny and pretty for long with out some protection on top.

That looks like dirt got under the laquer and has been thrown out through centrifugal force...

Fault of the refurber i would guess..

Have you tried some AG SRP on the marks ? Could be they lubed the rimbolts / hreads with something that is now showing ?

A set of split & refurbed 108s i sold to a forum member showed similar staining all over the star centres from the middle outwards  they'd been on the car a week or so :o he was gutted , i was alarmed & perplexed :? until his dad mentioned the copper grease he'd liberally applied to all the wheelnuts :headbang:
sure enough once cleaned off they were A1

Had similar looking staining on my old Z4 108s. Turned out to be grease (or something similar) and with a bit of rubbing, came off no problem

Ive tried pressure washer and sponge clean .. I think a machine would be the next best way to try cleaning them off

"machine" :? whats wrong with some mild cutting polish like SRP & a soft cloth operated by your own power  if that makes no difference then its back for a split & powdercoat

As all 4 wheels had these lines on them in multiple places and I dont own any alloy polish / a polishing machine, I decided to take it to where the work was done.

Turns out that the issue was something on top of the paint / laquer as polish did take it out (with the machine and a lot of elbow grease). Took over an hour in total but the guys at alloywheelexchange were very good and didnt charge me anything (despite the owner grumbling at me that they do not work for free).

All clean now so Im happy  but they didnt believe it was the locktite they use on the wheel bolts (as the colour of that is blue and the colour of the lines was black). So what it was is a mystery and I will likely have to invest in some polish either way ..

Glad you got it sorted  and I'm not surprised the owner grumbled at you.

I would of sent you away to buy a bottle of cutting compound and a few soft cloths with instructions on how to do it :poke:
