Good Afternoon all - especially those still on Xmas holiday !

my car - Z4 2.2 2005

My EML came on - 2-3 months ago , paid £40.0 to garage to have it reset - no real reason given for it to be on. I drove the car for a week before it was reset - cant say I noticed any loss of power, or anything different .

Last night it came on again.
Can anyone recommend a diagnostic tool to buy so I can check / reset myself ?

thanks, sharen

Mods - Can this be moved to the E85 section please? :)

I'm sure someone will assist. I'm not so sure if the Bluetooth ones used with the BMWApp thing works with older E85s. I know someone was having issues recently.

But I'm sure you could easily get a cheaper alternative that will work.

By the way is the battery possibly on the way out or in need of a good charge? I believe that can cause the EML light on the E85 to show with no other symptoms. But then it could also have other error codes too, so always best to check.

I got a Konwei 806 OBD tool from eBay for £11. Worked a treat to read the codes when my EML light came on briefly.

Cheap and really easy to use. Just plug it in and GT read codes. I didn't need to turn off any lights, but it has a erase code option.

$4,60 obd2 bluetooth dongle (so about £3,-)

Works fine with torque (android) for resetting engine codes. This is probably as cheap as it gets

I found the Bluetooth dongles a pain to communicate with.
Also a dodgy one with cable.
Better spend a few quid more for a wired version with it's own screen.

I've got a Bluetooth dongle and an obd 2 reset orange box both costing a couple of quid and both work no probs :-).. You can charge others then lol.
