Diagnostic Software and Interface

I think that it is :D

Where you go from there I'm not 100% sure... but there is info out there in scraps. There is a good thread on Pistonheads, search there for ediabas iirc :D

Before anything else I'd download and install VMware and make sure you can get the ports configured properly on your hardware especially if you are using this with sort of USB adapter. At least that part is free!

Thanks... I think I found the thread... now the next hurdle....

Anyone got any of the above software I could borrow for a while?

re VMWare - I'm fairly competent with using it as I already have it and use it for work, etc.

The free VMware software link... Click - proper think provision hypervisor

Or

VMware server - free but runs on a host OS layer Click

I'd be tempted to also grab the free P2V converter tool when that's installed and have a try at converting a physical machine.

ADD: You could also go with Citrix XenServer which is currently free (going after VMware's market share) Click

If you can find someone who is running this as a VM you could in theory get them to send you the VM on disk (essentially a text file) and you could import that onto your host. You would need to obviously license all of the software on correctly your host. Compatibility isn't an issue as each visualisation vendor strips out the physical hardware drivers and presents virtual drivers in their place - allowing portability. Sorry if you know that all already. Bit of a VMware fan... I know I'm a nerd :P

didn't know Citrix one is free now. don't worry I'm a nerd at heart too... actually I'd like to think I'm a cool nerd (well I do drive a Z4)! 8)

BTW you should try using Sun's VirtualBox... It's quite good and that's what I'm currently mainly using. Much easier to map shared folders between host and guest OS. But let's not go off topic now... :)

Haha, I have no idea :D

If people on here are happy to do the leg work and share the settings then that is great, but for me it's hard to find the time among other stuff :D

All I know is that for £50 you can get a working ediabas from Germany working on USB with FTDi usb > serial drivers and forcing a com port to it (at boot), and then run INPA over it... AND that with some effort you can make DIS see the ediabas as a GT1 head using vmware :)

How it all works I have no idea :D

That eBay link to the UK guy selling this kit might be worth talking to... he offers the images on HDD and that might come with a VMWare setup on it that could be helpfully setup all working, so then it's just making your ediabas think it's a GT1 head?!

I did email him, but he said he doesn't have a VM image of it, but that's easily solved by just converting it.

The original eBay link I posted for the DIS software on DVD's is pre-installed...

link again... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190386015645&_trksid=p2761.l1259

EDIT: looking at what he says it seems like it's a VM Image... :D

"These programs have been combined & Pre-installed so it will Virtually run on Windows 98, XP, Vista & Windows 7."

He said I can pick up the DVD's from him, so will probably have a word with him when i do to see what he knows!

Yep, sounds like a good bet :D

The person probably won't be much help with ediabas simulation as a GT1 head though, because that is what he sells ;) (GT1 heads!)

Someone else can probably help with that step though :D
