Diagnostic Code Readers

I like tinkering with this kind of stuff - so I want to get one.
But which one should I buy?

Quick research tells me this one is good but you have to look it up to your laptop - http://bmtechnic.co.uk/using-dis-to-diagnose-and-clear-faults/

The other types you find on ebay appears to be a simple plug in and test and they reveal a fault code and then you act accordingly - so pretty basic.

Thoughts?

I have one of the D900 CANSCAN OBDII Code readers which cost between £20-25 including postage on a 'buy it now' price on eBay. Loads of sellers do this model. It's brilliant, comes in a nice zip up case, and no need to link up with a computer. Reads and resets the EML light and runs a live readout, if required, when driving. Does not reset the air bag light, however.

Cheers Lillywhite - ill do some further research on that.

I'm interested in what others have got also and if they have tried the BM techniq item

I've got the BMtechnic one.

Comes with an automatic installer for all the software, which is a plus because manually getting it all going is a nightmare apparently.

Works very well, although I've only read few fault codes so far.

I happily spent the extra tenner or so, for the packaged software and the good technical support they provide.

They are closed until the 28th apparently though!

Edit: OK I'm not lurking any more, damn :)
