LOL, sorry guys... and sorry bronze stallion, I didn't mean to poke fun, it's just I am fed up with the issues my car is giving me and you could say I have fallen out of love with it! I seem to have bad luck with cars and their issues.
... "Sod's Law", I guess.... well in that case I'm Sod!
I hope you have seen the back of your issues... when they are not broken, these cars are brilliant!
If that's all that happens to mine it'll be a pleasant surprise.
Whatever you do, DO NOT buy an e34 M5 (mine was costing me about £1000/month in maintenance before I sold it) - you have been warned
I was going to say things could always be worse, but at £1000/month I don't think they could. How many months did it take for you to bail?
14 months in total, although the last 2 months it wasn't used as I had the Z4MC by then.
I always knew it was going to be a bit of a project, but with a recent engine rebuild and new suspension all round, I assumed the bills wouldn't be too bad. After all I'd owned another for 6 years before that and only got rid as the suspension went at the same time as the engine and it needed a respray, so would have needed £10k spending on it at least.
It was only after I'd had it a month I realised that the straight-through exhaust (no cats, no silencers) was too loud/harsh/embarassing, and bought a standard one (£500)
Then I realised the suspension was basically the stiffest springs and thickest-oiled dampers available in the world - it made the Z4MC feel soft - so I got a mate to contact Bilstein and sort something bespoke that would be both good on the road & track (£2500 including all the bushes, links, mounts, caps, etc.)
I got the interior reconnolised (£600)
Then I bought a spare gearbox, prop, clutch, flywheel (£1000)
Then I needed the air-con system overhauled (£1000)
Then we found out the colling pack was shot and full of sand (well about 1kg of sand in the whole system) and meant new radiator, hoses, heater valves, etc. (£1000)
Then the ignition system needed an overhaul (£2000)
Plus all the other 'little' bits I did in between my quarterly fix-fests.
