Deposit left on E89 30i - 19" Alloys Questions

Certainly makes sense. However, the problem with going up a size is the car becomes even taller geared, which I really don't like and ultimately makes it slower acceleration wise as you're changing the final gearing by 4%.

On the plus side, the PS4's are cheaper :) :)

I've got a set of 18" 325 that came with my Z4. I've pm'd you. :D

I’m having the same dilemma as just bought this 35i on 19’’ 326s with run flats.

They have just been refurbed and painted titanium, including a repair to a cracked rear. I was wondering whether to take them off and replace with something a little more robust, but I like the idea of swapping the tyres for a set of non run-flats with one profile up to give a better ride. I think 18s would look too small but that’s personal preference.

326’s really suit the E89, no need to ditch 19’s whatsoever, plus with premium rubber non run flats you won’t have any issues at all with the ride, MPSS’s an an example give a very very smooth ride in comfort mode, even bordering on being too soft, I often use sport to stiffen things up. Just spend on quality rubber and then cracks, bad ride are a thing of the past.

This has just put a massive dilemma in my life, my 326's are in need of a refurb and was toying with a change of colour to titanium, these pics aren't making that decision any easier

Thanks John .. is it worth moving up a profile with non run flats or sticking to the original sizes?

Carrotbay, if you believe that changing tyres will make "cracks ... a thing of the past", now's the time to start saving for wheel replacement, beginning with the cracked & welded one you've already got.

I changed to non rf tyres & my 326’s still cracked :(
I’d go up to a higher profile to give the wheels a better chance of survival :?

I just stuck with the original sizes so I’m afraid I can’t comment on how the ride is with a higher profile, personally I wouldn’t because it’s already plenty soft enough.

Look at the amount of E89’s running 326’s on the road, the majority I see are on them, are they all cracked? Nope, some do but no one can say how many, there’s a paranoia on here about them, some of the worst offenders I don’t think have even had 326’s...

I'm still really undecided what to do!

How much do you think I could get for my 326M's? They were reconditioned 350 miles ago, front Bridgestones run flat tyres have 4.75mm and 6mm and rears are both 7.3mm. No evidence of any cracks or repairs.

This is a really stunning example of a Z, mate. Love those alloys and the contrast roof/mirrors.

Thanks. I’d like to say it’s all my work but it was done by the previous owner who made some subtle changes without going mental. The roof and mirrors and bottom centre of the front number have a black wrap on them. It’s pretty good quality so will keep it for now and potentially get these bits painted properly black at some point. He was keen to keep the wheels as he’d upgraded the brakes to 370mm discs etc and you can see them better with these wheels.

It really stood out when I was looking for one a few months ago so I’m happy. Just need to decide what to do about the tyres. Non run flats up a profile and keep my fingers crossed for the alloys!

I went for non run flat tyres in the end and the ride is SO much better. However hit a pothole last night before the new tyres today .. and guess what? .. a cracked alloy :headbang:

Having roads worse than a third world country really doesn’t help the 326 wheels survival rates, if only they were made from an alloy instead of eggshells

The OP has many choices. If I bought that car I would be so happy enjoying the tires that the previous owner recently spent over $1300. on and for a tire that wears very very well. I would make sure the camber on the rear is minimal because riding on the inner edge is thought to be a cause of the wheel cracking. I might try running a softer air pressure for the ride and the wheel cracking. I would learn where the pot holes are on my routes. I also might do lots of hard cornering to learn the limits of the car and because I have a set of free and expendable tires to wear out. If the tires are all season, I would enjoy how well they work in bad weather and temps below about 45f. Threads regarding wheels get more discussion than anything else. There is a lot of OCD here about wheels. As far as judging the appearance of 18 vs 19, I say its a beautiful car, and no-one but you notices or cares what size the wheels are. Use the money you save for a trip to the Alps or Monte Carlo. Drive it and enjoy!

+1
I'm in the same boat with my 35is. I went down a pretty big pot hole the other day and the whole car went bang. I have checked the wheels but they look OK, fortunately.

I never off-road or track the car and I'm an old fart of a driver - I like the acceleration and cruising around in it but I rarely thrash the car. Tyres are coming up or renewal in The Spring and an ideal opportunity to make this switch. I find the whole subject of changing profiles etc extremely confusing.
Do I:
1. Refurb the 326's (pretty good condition and no cracks) and add none run flats?
2. Ditch the 326's and get some 437's (none run flats)
3. Carry on the current set up and risk a crack and being stranded?

1 & 3 are poor options and 2 is expensive. So, ...
4. Go to 18" wheels & tyres. The drive very well and don't ... er ... crack.

Option 1 for me. I ran 326’s and dropping the runflats made a big difference. They are a great looking wheel and suit the E89 a treat, much better than 18’s IMO. Yes they can be fragile (not that I had any issues on non runflats) so not the ‘practical’ choice but it is a Z4 after all
