Dension of DICE module for ipod

Hello everyone,

Here I came after research on other Forum on the module DICE

--> Module DICE <--

I know if some of this material and even if some have already installed it or even its product competitor Dension Gateway?

Do you know if it works correctly?

May be it is necessary to know if the Zed is equipped with a DSP, it may be a stupid question but how is it possible to know if it is equipped with the DSP?

Otherwise level connections following the post that you have: Business CD, Navigation System, and so is what it is necessary to have some kind of connections?
(For my part I have served as "base" but I do not know its reference Embarrassed)

Finally voila if someone could help me because I galère a little Sad :(

Sorry for my English but i'm French, and i wasn't very observant in English Lessons...

You have a form of DSP in your Z4 but you do not need to buy the DSP interface module for a DICE iPod device. I have a 2007 Z4 with the Business CD and NAV and am running a DICE without a DSP interface.

I did have to buy one of those for my Wife's 2005 X3 and am quite familiar with why it was necessary but we do not need it on our cars.

The DICE interface does work and I am happy I bought it for my Coupe but I would also strongly consider the Intravee if I had the choice right now. I used to have an Alpine iPod interface in my last car and far prefer that to the DICE iPod controls.

Alan thanks for your answer :)

My Zed is a 2004 and it's equiped of radio called "BMW CD" (it's what is displayed on the front) do you known if the DICE will work with it or it's necessary to buy a other interface. I have a doubt because the last week end i have withdrew my BMW CD and behind i don't knwon if i have the possibility to connect the DICE ... :(

Tooky - you may want to look at the links bras0782 posted above for your model year car. It sounds like there are some differences in what BMW calls DSP between the 2004 Z4s and the more recent ones like mine.

If your does require the DSP interface like my wife's 2005 X3 then I have to recommend that you look elsewhere for an iPod solution. The one I got for her car is pretty flaky and half the time you plug in your iPod the car won't recognize it unless you make sure a) the sound system is off before you start the car, b) make sure the iPod is active before you attach it to the interface, and even then it sometimes won't recognize the iPod unless you start and the car and make sure the dash computer is fully initialized before you turn on the stereo. The usual solution is to turn off the engine and repeat the steps above until it does work. I only use it on trips where I know I will be listening to the music long enough to make this ritual seem worthwhile.

In my Z4 I just start the car and turn on the stereo - it always works just fine. I have swapped the DICE unit between the 2 cars with the same results - the DSP module is just a piece of cr*p and since DICE didn't make it (Radio Shack does) DICE won't support it. Radio Shack doesn't support it either so all you can do is cuss about why you spent your money on it.....

i looked the link posted by Bras and thanks a lot for that :) my choice will be for the DICE but i have a question (may be i misread the post) because i don't known if i have the good connection behind my radio, i disassembled it the last week end to see how it's done, for example this product have all of connection for my radio or i have to buy an another connection for complete it ? :

PS : i'm sorry if my questions are not clear and more sorry if my english is not good :(

Tooky -

The connector set you are looking for is in the rear end of your car and would haave been for a CD changer. If you have the DSP that is described in the links provided by bras0782 it will look like this:

CDChanger.jpg

This picture is from the back of the CD changer I had in my wife's 2005 X3 while I was exchanging emails with Tom@EAS about whether I needed the DSP module but it does show the coaxial connector (in front) along with the 3 pin connector behind it that is described in at least one of the posts bras0782 posted links to. If this is the connector for the CD changer in your Z4 then you do need the DSP module and you should be aware that the nuances I described above will probably haunt you whenever you try to use your iPod.

If you don't see the coaxial connector then the DICE interface will work just fine and should give you many happy hours of listening pleasure behind the wheel.

Thanks AlanL I will check that tomorrow.

I will take a photo of the rear of my radio because i'm not sure to have all the connector for the DICE (this is an impression) there is so little of wire or connector behind of my radio :( ... i will show you tomorrow

PS ; i have this radio

Tooky - the interface and connectors for the CD changer are actually in the back of the car. The head unit up in the console does not have the interface cables you will need in order to connect the DICE iPod interface.

In the rear of the car there are more electronics for the sound system and the coaxial connector I showed a picture of above was between the DSP in the rear of the car and the CD changer location.

The radio unit you show a picture of is exactly the same as the one in my wife's X3.

I check in the rear of my car but i haven't see the 3 pins connector dans le 6 pins connector :(, i don't have the CD charger, the connectors must be present even if i don't have the CD chargeur by default ???

Tooky - I am afraid you have hit the end of my knowledge here since I don't a Z4 of similar vintage to yours. You might want to try sending an email to the folks at European Auto Source (www.europeanautosource.com) as they are far more articulate on DICE installs than any of us ever will be. They do this for a living and most of us have done an install or two at best.

AlanL i was able to recover the connectors for the CD changer and thus for the DICE, if i can have the details on the connection behind the radio i could connect it or at least verify if the both connectors (3 pins and 6 pins) are already present in my car. Have you got the details of each wire behind the radio AlanL ?? Correspondance of each wire or at least these of CD changer ?

PS : On my car i don't have the little white connector

DannyBoy, a similar issue ? which is ?

I have no answer for my previous questions ... :-/

I spoke with a BMW's mechanic who said me that it's impossible to connect a CD changer on my radio ... but AlanL says the opposite...

Tooky - drop a note to Tom at EAS or try cross posting to Bimmerfest where he is a regular and frequently answers DICE install questions. I have never worked with the connections on the back of the radio unit at all in a BMW - just the CD changer connections at the back of the car.

Guys, appears I was wrong. The car is fitted with the boot leads, albeit they were bloody good at hiding!
