Hey,

Got my Dension Ice Link Plus through the post today, and with it being a nice evening decided to have a go at getting it fitted!

A brief synopsis -
Struggled with the vents
Struggled with removing the unit (force required as well!)
Took me an age to realise that main plug could be removed from the unit!

So, removed the main plug from the unit, and got no further!! I have the CD changer installed at the moment, and assumed that I could just swap them over, but the connector plugs are a different size. From what I can see I there is no way of connecting the 6pin Ick Link connector to the main plug!! Pic to follow!

Any assistance greatly accepted (and any forum links that my numerous searches have failed to find!)

BTW
This is the ebay item

Goose you need to disconnect the cd changer in the boot just un plug it. you then need to remove the white 10/12 pin plug (from memory) from the main headunit block and replace it with the one connected to the dension unit.

It's as simple as that, the only other thing you may need to do is program the dension unit to ensure it's mated to your head unit correctly.

yes works fine with SatNav, I hused mine without for 2-3 years in 3 cars then retrofitted Nav into the Z4.

You can program the Dension to show ID3 tags as well.

Cheers srhutch,

I removed the white plug (that I assume connects the cd changer, but it's a different shape to that on the dension unit

The white plug is square with about 10 pins in it from memory. The Dension I had in my previous car was a simple click in the main quadblock. Can you show a picture of the plug you have with the Dension? If the plug contains the small metal pins, you could also transfer those to the white block (bit more of a pain though).

pvr,
Yeah, I thought it would be a simple swap as well!!!

Picture below of the connector on the Dension.

And the white connector that was attached to the head unit

You will need to swap some of the pins round if you have BMW OEM Bluetooth fitted, from memoery when I isntalled on my 3 series coupe I had to do this otherwsie something didnt work.

looks as if the dension you have bought is not the right one my friend.

Basically the white plug you have from the head unit should be the same as the one coming from the dension.

I have OEM bluetooth and mine just fitted together without changing any pins... The box looked nothing like that though, that looks like i may be an old model.

You might be better off contacting a UK Dension Distributor and see if you can get a loom/interface.

I did this when I changed from my 3 series to the Z4 as the heads unit have different interfaces, cant remember which one but it wasnt that expensive either from memory

Cheers!

I don;t suppose you have any contact details.

P.S - Really liking the assistance I'm getting on the forum

You in luck so far, I found the email order confirmation

1 x ice>Link Plus Vehicle Harness - BMW IBUS Quadlock (ILBM40) = £18.97

Only problem as I see it was this was just over 2 years ago and the IceLink Plus is obsolete, but has to be worth a try.

Good luck.

PS if you need firmware updates and the ID3 tag bit then let me know.

Otherwise you have to move the pins across into the white connector. I can not remember the pin layout though but I do have some schematics somewhere from a few years ago when I worked on it. If it comes to that, I could dig those out.
