Degreasing advice

Bought some used 330 callipers - they're covered in s**t and grease. What's people's thought in degreasing them? I'm thinking boiling hot water and washing up liquid and left to soak for a couple of hours and then attacking with a scrubbing brush before hitting them with some wire wool?

Any other/better ideas?
 
Brake cleaner will remove the grease, ECP do a large 400ml for about £2.50 (or £1.25 if you have an account) If they are really bad, some Gunk BUT if you use anything other than brake cleaner, you'll really need to strip the pistons out to make sure none has gotten inside as it will contaminate the brake fluid. I wouldn't use water or the dishwasher as these could both cause condensation inside which could lead to corrosion.

I'd soak them for at least 24 hours in a fairly concentrated solution of a water-based degreaser like Surfex HX, scrubbing occasionally to help remove any thick deposits and then use a steam cleaner on them to 'melt' off any remnants

Once the grease is off I'd give them a soak in something like deox-c to remove any rust, then they can be prepped & painted

- or save yourself the trouble and, as suggested above, send them off for a professional refurb
 
Washing up liquid is perfect, it's cheap and a great emulsifier just use it with warm water then dry off thoroughly afterwards
 
You need to brush with 'Gunk' or muc-off. Then clean 2nd time with a meths soaked cloth. It will work a treat.
