This is the car park at my Virgin club:

Interesting concept that, a virgin club.... !!?

I got quite interested in that, until I read it was a gym.

Sorry but parking in a disabled spot just to protect the car is a definite no-no in my book. It's even more of a shocker when it's someone just being too bloody lazy to walk an extra 5 or 10 metres from a normal space. At that point it's disgustingly arrogant and selfish.

Defensive parking - I'm with Ruby - I take the other car!! Even then though I pick the space carefully - like the end of a row so you can get as far over as possible in the space away from the next car. Or look out for that gold-dust space with no adjacent spaces - in a multi-storey where there's just the up/down ramp and/or supporting pillars either side. Bonus! Typically though I always park as far away from the shops/entrance etc as possible, and typically I always find a sheep has still parked next to me on my return. More frustrating is that my mother-in-law is just one of those people, and I've on one occasion been really really biting my tongue trying not to explode when she got out of her car and clobbered the one next to it with her door. There was a real battle going on inside me for a few minutes over what to say or do to that little bump. Especially when we came to leave and she giggles and says to my wife "why did you park so far away". aaaaarrrrrrrggghhhhhh.

Bizarre as it may sound to people these days, but I actually quite enjoy walking. Given how little exercise we tend to get these days stretching my legs a wee bit walking across a car park I find strangely pleasing.... :? We used to live right next to a gym and I always laughed at amount of cars that would drive around doing laps of the car park looking for the closest possible space. You're going to the gym for exercise for goodness sake! Even more amusing was watching the cars leave and head straight through the McD's or KFC drive-through on their way out as well

Always worried about dings.

Worries me with posts, trees,close parking, people carriers, vans, etc.

So I park around the back where I feel safer as people are too lazy to use a code to get in and out (the Jags mine too as Mrs CJ is also well trained...)

looks like the vip part of the gym clubs parking area :lol:

all the crap out the front, all the finer stuff round the back.

p.s: You're possibly more likely to incur a vengeful key across your paintwork if you park a "flash" car with no blue badge in the disabled space, so you're ironically increasing the risk to your car.

Wow - live an learn. Didn't know a hairy finger was a sign of a virgin.

Disabled parking slots - totally agree. Although 50% of those using them appear to have no reason to be using the blue badge I do respect those slots and would never use one

Disabled spaces are over kill at times. Our local tesco probably has 20 further away than the kids spaces which have the same amount. Where is the logic to that, only around 2 or 3 occupied, the other 17 wasted space!!

I'm with you there, although I imagine some overpaid bureaucratic committee in Brussels has come up with a formula for calculating how many disabled spaces are required vs normal spaces.

Slick - I totally agree and understand the comment. My experience however is different when compared against the criteria of the scheme:

The Blue Parking Badge Scheme provides a national arrangement of parking concessions for people with
severe walking difficulties who travel either as drivers or passengers. The scheme also applies to registered
blind people, and people with very severe upper limb disabilities who regularly drive a vehicle but cannot turn
a steering wheel by hand. The scheme is intended to apply only to those people with disabilities who have
permanent and severe mobility problems.

Sadly there are way too many abuses by perfectly healthy individuals who no longer qualify, don't have the passenger with them, forged badges, etc. etc. As an example my late father-in-law used a badge for 5 years after his wife passed away, as a convenience since it had been issued.

Regardless I totally respect the scheme and what it aims to achieve.

There you go:
Shopping and leisure centres must provide 6 per cent of their spaces for the disabled if their car parks contain less than 200 spaces.
For car parks with more than 200 spaces, 4 per cent must be allocated for the disabled

So for somewhere like Westfield in London which has 4,500 spaces means that 180 spaces must be disabled, which actually doesn't sound that much.

My 10c on this, I was walking into Tesco at the weekend and watched a genuine disabled driver fail to find a space because all slots were filled illegally. As a friend of a disabled person who needs a spot, they're there for a reason, please don't abuse them or use them if you're not disabled.

Parent and child spots are fair game but disabled aren't.

I've always wondered why they put the two together in most car parks?

Would've been cheaper getting a tin of black paint and covering the parent & child. And just to digress, I wonder how many parents take their kids to the gym. I don't frequent such places but is there a creche/ball pool/room full of little person weights or somewhere you would leave them? I'd imagine having to watch out for your sprogs wouldn't be conducive to getting a good workout.

OK - so a bit stupid of them but the idea was to add a barrier to keep pikey's out the back car park. Sadly the delivery of the idea was not in line with the concept.

I always park well away as the place is full of mum's showing doors into car wings while loading screaming kids into people carriers. It has a creche, indoor pool, out door pool and is heaving with the little beauties :thumbsdown:
