How many of you Z3-Z4 owners have had problems with their fuel pumps???

What year is your car?

How many times has it been in for service?

I'm trying to get a good count, please participate.

Thanks

ive seen a mention about the fuel pump problem in the old z4 forum. but none here and mine is still running fine since 2003

I made an early post in the summer of 03' about a fuel pump problem. During high altitude driving in the Alps, along with sustain and prodigious use of the throttle, the car would act as if it was running out of fuel with the engine eventually stopping. One of the BMW AG owned dealerships in Germany eventually traced the problem, apparently a resistor was added to the fuel pump electrics to correct the problem. Though I don't often drive in the Alps the few I have times since the repairs the Zed has performed without fault.

A recent visit to a USA dealer flagged a recall for fuel pump replacement here in the states. No problems prior or post pump replacement.

I had mine replaced in 2007 on a 1 yr old 3.0Si. Car ran fine (although seemed to run out of breath at high revs) but once the fuel tank warmed up the pump made a loud whine. Dealer diagnosed a faulty pump and replaced it - high end revs sorted and no whine.

Just thought I'd bump this thread up, maybe other Z owners didn't see it and had problems like mine, made LOUD noise at start up.

Mine made a loud sonorous noise for a while, particularly on start up. Coincided with a change of fuel brand. Changed back, never heard it again.

Yes...it's an occasional loud groaning/grinding noise possibly from the right rear on first turn of the ignition, before cranking the starter. New fuel pump fitted under warranty. Now with another new pump out of warranty, but paid for by BMW. Various investigations and fixes tried along the way.

This is a September 2004 2.2i SE with a very low mileage of about 16000 (it's a weekend car - I must get out more). Runs OK.

Hope we're third time lucky...

Don't use Tesco 99 do you? That's what I used and it made the noise. No problems since going back to Shell.

16k on a 54? That's high mileag :) 14 on my 04. :D

Found the same in the Z4 and in my nissan 200sx with walbro fuel pump... seemed during warmer weather the pump would cavitate or make abnormally loud noises when using Tesco 99

I took my Z to Zfest & guess what happened?? Yep, the FUEL PUMP was making noise again!!!! This time I wasn't the only one who heard it, We were all leaving for home & others heard it. Now all I have to do is get BMW to make it right. :headbang: How many fuel pumps do I have to have replaced before BMW accepts falt instead of say after 4 pumps there's no problem?
