Deer Damage - Insurance Advice Please.

Mrs. Merbrook returned home this evening to tell me that she had hit a Muntjac on the way home from work.
She tells me that she was hit it at 50 - 60mph, enough to kill the deer outright and cause the damage in the pics below.
The damage done that I can see is that the front bumper is cracked/split, headlight pushed up into the wing a little, wheel arch liner is knackered and the headlight washer appears to be the same way.

Does anyone have :-
A. A rough idea of costs. (don't know whether to go through insurers)?
B. Do you go through the insurers ( They haven't been informed yet)?
C. Any body shop recommendations in South Warwickshire or adjoining areas?

Depends if the bumper can be repaired to your satisfaction. Repair respray replace liner reposition headlight. All simple stuff for a repairer. Probably less than your excess. If it needs a new number spraying up from scratch. That will be far more.

Thanks, I think that the bumper will need replacing as it has been split, also think that the lower Alpina part of the bumper may have a small crack in it but need to go and double check.
Any ideas on the cost of a front bumper?

That's the 2nd one in the last week or so!

I think I'd try to find a good body-shop and get some idea of costs from them before I started trying to decide how to proceed. They'll also be able to tell you whether they can repair the bumper.

It's not directly relevant, but I had a new rear bumper painted and fitted to my 1 Series in 2008 and even as a cash job it still cost £500.

Hope you get it sorted OK. :thumbsup:

Thanks Mr.Tidy :thumbsup: I think you’re right, i was coming to the same conclusion. Just trying to find a decent place within a reasonable distance.
 
That bumper could be fixed without too much issue. Plastic weld back together.

As above, get a private quote and go from there.

Sorry to see that mate, especially to such a nice Pina, is the front bumper on them, a standard E85 with the alpina attachment on the bottom section then ?
If so, you should be able to get a decent from bumper and hopefully in the correct colour.
Nice sandals by the way :)

She couldn’t face checking the Deer as she thought that she’d knocked its head off :sick:
I think your right that it’s a standard bumper with the alpina bit stuck on the bottom section. I’m going to get some quotes later on today all being well.
They’re flip flops by the way, not sandals, should have gone to spec savers Fred. :oldman: :rofl: :rofl:
 
Bad news Tim. Sorry to hear this.
All you can do is get quotes and gauge how confident they are about repairing the bumper before going for a new one but your correct that the bottom part is just glued onto a standard pre-facelift bumper
 
Oh deer :(

Something else to always bear in mind is the additional cost making a claim might have on your renewals for ALL policies you would need to disclose the claim on. We have 3 cars and 1 claim around 5 years ago put them all up by roughly £30 a policy for the next few years. Probably cost over £300 in increased premiums. Thankfully the no claims bonus on the policy the claim was made on was protected otherwise that would have been another hit to the wallet. The excess was £250, but the damage cost over £1k to repair, so overall it was worth it.

What year is your car. I have seen less damaged cars on a breakers yard sites and they are classed as a write off. My car is an 06 and this year I am insuring third party because if I go fully comp again they will just write it off for a miner shunt. So I hope to be able to do any repairs myself.
I live on the west coast of Scotland so I have a deer whistle on my car and it works. You don't have much time when they suddenly appear in your windscreen. The whistle let them know you are coming.

Got a quote from a place localish to me. Has a very good reputation particularly among the Porsche community and came highly recommended. It does need a new bumper as the damage was more extensive to it than first appeared. Thank goodness for insurance.

Thanks weegeoff, the car is 05 registered.
What is a deer whistle? How does it work? It might be useful around here as there are a lot of deer in the area. I hit one the other year in my pickup on the same road as my wife had the accident on the other night. It didn’t cause any damage to the truck though.
 
There is an excellent body shop near me - Pride & Joy Autos (specialist repairs in fibreglass etc) postcode NN12 6LQ. Might be worth a quote/visit.
 
A deer whistle is what it says on the tin, It sticks on the front of your car and when you drive it whistles I took one of my front grill out and stuck it there. Try eBay or Amazon you should find one.
