Z4andy, Before you take the car into them again, I would be seriously tempted to try heating a bit of your bonnet with a hairdryer to see for yourself if it fixes it. Your neighbours will probably think you are mad, but I would be curious enough to try it myself, after reading this:

There has been strong sunshine here for the last few days with temps 16-22c and I have left the car out to bake in the sun and the paintwork gets very hot to touch.

No improvement so far though I might just try the hair dryer for a while tomorrow :oops: Dealer has made a right mess of the car though and they say most of the damage was done by the area inspector himself. So i'll be phoning to complain.

Still thinking of a new iS though :thumbsup:

It's superb, 10% louder than the 35i all through the rev range. :)

Don't ask me to post a sound clip though I've only recently got used to posting pic's :oops:

I don't know if the sound clip gives a true sound. I heard one on you tube and to be honest, I could not discern much of a difference from the 35i. I would have to hear it in person, but from what I could hear on the sound clip, it wasn't much of a difference and certainly not 10%.
 
Side by side it's not noticeably any different to the 35i to be honest. I had an 35is running next to mine at my dealers last weekend. My be different when driving through the rev range. :?
 
Time for an update on my situation.

Not too happy.

First off the car came back with several stone chips on it that the service chap agrees where not present :headbang: Scratch they put on the cars rear bumper is still there :x

The bleamish on the front wing has been painted and it's a good job :)

The water marks have been removed but there is buffer trails on the car :x

and finally there was 7.5 miles on the car. Body shop round trip to the dealer 5.6 miles. Either a quick hoon up the carriageway or a customer drop off. They are apparently investigating this.

Ohh and I reset the avg MPG when I left the house. 50 miles journey all motorway @60 mph and the car was sitting at 40.3mpg when I reached the dealer. When I got the car back this had dropped to 30mpg (5.6 mile round trip to bodyshop). I've never seen it below 33.6mpg and it usually sits at 34.4mpg. Infact on the drive home it was back up to 36mpg.



So i've been told to get them a quote for a detail or a mega deal for an iS.
 
Well the bad news is the water marks came back.

Car was caught in a shower and a bit of sun did similar damage but nowhere near as bad. Infact I used a hairdryer and got all but one out that has since nearly disapeared in todays hot sun.

Dealer is aware and I have asked them to find out WTF is causing this and how I stop it from happening.
 
This is extraordinary! :? :o So when these water marks appear they won't wash off or polish/buff out?

Is it some sort of reaction with the wax/polish you have on the car....?

That's what happens with mine too, but TBH I've gave up trying :tumbleweed: :headbang:

I had BMW protect and seal done mibbee he did too!
I've gave up on it the noo, getting it detailed and paint corrected hopefully next month
 
It does happen on silver too. I put a post in the detailing section about it. The dealer, fortunately, caused it by wetting the car to find a leak and then leaving it out in the sun.They then spent two days getting rid of it - or nearly! Their response when I said am I not supposed to use it in the rain or sun was that the water must have been strange in some way. It does live in a garage so not really had it rained on and left out in the sun, but it will happen. The other cars at home live outside in all weathers with no issues. Time will tell I guess but it can't just be down to water based paints because the other 3 cars (2 silver and one gold) are also water based.

Doubt it. I got the car back and they had stripped it of all wax, heated the waterstains until gone then buffed it with 3m. I hadn't got near it with the SRP and wax and it happened again.

There was also a mention of suncream causing major hassle with the paint but I don't know the details.
