Since my car is coming up for 3 years old in just over a months time, I made the most of the good weather over the Easter weekend, and gave it another light machine polish and coating of wax. Actually started on Friday afternoon and finished today. I'm really pleased with the results. :)

That looks really lovely... Did you do the wash/tardis/claybar/polish, i.e. 'the works' approach? I've got all the kit but am erring on selling it, unused, in favour of a full swissvax 'do' from a professional...

Thanks guys!

Yes, it got the works. :D

Washed on Friday and clayed (quite a bit of dirt was lifted by the clay bar), washed with Megs APC (Meguiars All Purpose Cleaner) to try and get the old wax off. Then over Saturday/Sunday and today, machine polished with Menz light cut polish (can't remember the number), but greatly reduced the swirl marks on it. I kept washing/rinsing/drying it in between the rain showers each day. Finally waxed with Collinite 845 insulator wax which is soooooo easy to use. I need to get all the black trim and rubbers cleaned/coated with gummi pfledge - thats for next weekend though!

Wow amazing work....

But making the most of the weather.... Its been raining most of today down south.

Looks like new, no need to sell now :)

Tim.

Thanks Tim, and everyone else for the kind comments.

It's only just done 11,500 miles and everything still feels tight and solid. Paintwork is in perfect condition and I still love driving it. It still feels fresh in terms of design and although I'm biased, I think it looks more elegant than my neighbours new SLK.

Just waiting for the extended warranty details to come through.

Navid, I'm sure we can work out a price on my super fuel efficient A1 TDI :poke: :D (seriously not kidding about upgrading to an S-Line in September!)

Looks fab especially in the sunlight. What polisher have you got Gordon, been thinking about getting one?

Cheers Mike.

This is the kit I have:

http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing-machines/das-6-pro-dual-action-polisher/das-6-pro-dual-action-polisher-menzerna-intro-kit/prod_720.html

The orange pad is for polishing - the white one is harder and would be more agressive, and the yellow one softer so won't really cut the paintwork at all.

The Menz final finish polish (its actually labelled Final Finish 3000) has very little cut, but mainly gives a glossy finish. I tend to do a panel/area at a time, (front bumper, rear bumper, front wing, door and rear side panel) and do the large bonnet, roof and bootlid in 2 parts. I spread the polish quickly at speed 2 across the panel, then move the machine much slower at speed 4-5 until you see the polish going clear. Finally wipe away any excess polish with a micro fibre cloth. Any marks on the paint you can go over a few times, and watch them fade away gradually. The Menzerna polish is very easy to work with.

The paste Collinite 845 wax is also really easy to use and wipes off quite easily. Its also pretty long lasting.

I have to say the paintwork feels soooooo smooth to touch now! :D
