Looks great Bing well done. Get yourself a rotary polishing thingy. My wife got me one for Christmas. I used it over the bank holiday it takes all the hard work out of the job

And leaves much more time for standing around looking at your car. I clay bared used some resin polish then waxed. I had never done all three process i was truly amazed

RJS-Z4, they look ok from a distance, but the dings and very, very slight bubbling here and there annoy me. They are fine for now, but a summer of them on and at least one cack-handed tyre fitter later and we'll see. If I get them refurbed they'll be done OEM. As for photos, good shout

Cheers Machine monkey, I am getting closer to spending more money. But then I have to figure out what to get, which pads to use, how to get it all past SWMBO... *sigh*

Went out to fill in some chips and small scratches this morning. Just the rear panels done so far ; in an hour or two I will go out and get rid of the blobs with Langka Blob Away (google it ). There are so many though that I always forget where they are, so my car now looks like this over the whole rear end from the bumper up :

My rotary was really cheap came with some pads. I am sure the pros would say it rubbish and get........

But as an armature learning it is a good place for me to start.

Rotary? Not DA? Rotary is a brave move for an amateur FYI. (BMW paint is hard, so you're normally safe, but it's still a risk).

Sorry might be a DA actually it reciprocates not rotates!!

There is a very naughty Rugby song involving a finger a woodpecker and and reciprocating rotating. Probably not appropriate hear!! Thread over board.

A rotary is no more dangerous than a DA...they seen to have this bad name about them...

a DA takes forever on hard paint, best used for glazes, wet sanding or sticky paint (IMO)...

and TBH... unless you have a paint reader that costs £££££ that can read what level of paint and clear you have... you are always running a risk with any machine... :wink:

My friend/business partner and I do have the paint depth gauge you speak of so it's all good.

I'll agree that with hard paint it isn't such an issue, but unless you've owned the car from new you can sometimes come across a repair that may not be as hard.

With a DA the chance you have of overheating and burning through the paint is greatly reduced hence my comment, and if you've got a japanese car, just step away from the polisher all together.

At least u have a garage,unlike me,which gives me a problem,when i will do my 22ple ceramic glasscoat,as it needs to be under cover for at least 24-48hrs.

So is the Kestrel/das6,and a bit cheaper,and available from a few places with various deals,as with the megs,including polishes,pads,etc...thats how i bought mine a few yrs back.
They make light work of surface scratches,especially on darker colours/Black. i once had some nasty scratches on the top of the front wing on my Black z4,thanks to a gas meter inspector(meter up side of driveway),and megs scratch x,etc etc did not alot to remove it...my Kestrel das 6 along with megs/sonus pads and some Meguirs cuting compound mirror glaze 85 removed it nicely,before using some sonus and megs polishes,etc ontop of the affected area. came up great/scratches all dissapeared.

So. I feel like I effectively wasted a day yesterday. Spent a LOT of time on filling stone chips, then using Langka to get rid of the blobs. Forgot how much effort it takes to use - fine on one or two, but when you're doing about 40 it gets boring. Very, very boring :x

However, had I not done it I'd be standing looking at them all thinking 'I really should have done that'. Didn't touch the bonnet, front of the wings or the front bumper at all - too many chips and scratches so a front end respray is on the cards for sure later this year.

Sun is out this morning, but we have to get some kit for Wee Bing going back to school... I am at the edges of Mrs Bs patience right now so need to divert my priorities :wink:

Nevertheless, I have managed two coats of Poorboys Black Hole while Mrs B is at the gym keeping her waste disposal unit in trim :lol:

After town, a coat of Purple Haze Pro wax, change the wheels, clean arches, swap centre caps over and dress tyres (as long as the rain holds off), then another coat of wax. If it rains the wheels will wait until tomorrow afternoon. Oh, and I also need to polish the exhaust tips and clean the glass. Then I just need to figure out a decent place to take her for some photos that is close by... Because of course by the time I get back the car will be all dusty again :|
