I have to be on a boat monday night - holland / germany to Denmark. In Denmark all week then return trip ..................

Its mid November and in Germany, as soon as the temp drops its compulsory to fit winter tyres ........ but the temp hasn't dropped yet 8)

Ive got winter tyres fitted to my '98 range rover hmmmmmmmmmmmm

do I chunt across europe - through germany at a sedate pace in the rangie wondering when its going to break down ...... do I risk it and take the Z4 on pilot sport tyres knowing full well it never snows around these parts (hahahaha) or do I bite the bullet ...............

Just been down the tyre shop and asked whats the likelihood of getting decent winter tyres for the Z4M in the next 24 hrs - (thinking they will never do it and the decision will be made for me) .........

 bollox as the say ........... a trip across germany in the RR when there's a Zed in the drive  its never going to happen.

Winter tyres going on in the morning (sunday)

.......... and to all them folk who dont think winter tyres are worth it ..... come and visit me at work in Norway sometime and you can see the difference for yourself ........ they dont salt the roads there, you drive on hardpacked ice ........ and its almost the same as tarmac.

Do you fit the winter tyres to your "summer" rims, or do you keep a separate set of rims for the purpose? Just curious, having never seen winter tyres...

I have separate rims - firstly to preserve my lovely 108s from any kerbs that try to ambush me, and secondly because the BMW recommended size for winters on mine is 225 17 45 all round, which the 108s are not - insurance companies are not forgiving... However it's the first year I have fitted them to anything, so I'm no authority. There's a hooooooj sticky thread on this in the general discussion section though.

@ teamemmenracing - Z all the way

Good choice on fitting the winter boots for you trip, and for leaving the RR at home

Just the one set of rims ....... got a tyre place around the corner that does the swap in no time.

had spare sets of wheels but they just use up space in the shed

No more room than your summer tyres will though

Indeed wheels are inside the tyres, so they take exactly the same amount of space :D

Well instead of turning left and heading home ........ an early morning "have to be there" meeting friday meant I turned left and went to Norway ....... :D
Which of course means ......... that I get to do the Norway / Denmark /Germany / Holland drive home on wednesday/thursday.

Temperature is now down to below 5 degrees so Im on the right tyres

You might think I'm nuts, but I love road trips ........ :driving:

well it pissed down hard all the way from dover to ediburg ..... couldn't fault the zed tho ........ 2000 km trip in 2 days :thumb
