Decisions, decisions...

Ok, a while ago I mentioned that I was looking for a niceley specced 7 seater X5, and it had to be a 40d, with lots of toys..

Well, 12 months later I've pretty much given up on the idea, having viewed about 15 potential cars, none of which were "just" what I was looking at - I mean come on, you'd think someone had to be crazy to say, spec a car with a pan roof, HUD, top hifi, self closing doors and THEN not spec heated seats??? BUT I looked at at least three cars which didn't have them, and it is a deal breaker for me and my old bones!

So...

After much umming and ahhing, many "discussions" read arguments :) with the wife, who incidentally DOESN'T drive ?? I have decided to change my plan a little..

As I spend around 90% of my time in any vehicle, whether that be the Zed, my van or the family bus on my own, my man maths has worked out the following..

Spend the best part of £20k on a 4x4, which will probably spend 6 days a week sat on my drive, OR go for something that I'll want to use every day, and keep hold of the current family bus, which owes me nothing, and only costs me the road tax...

So, I have narrowed my list to 2 possibles..

An M5 Estate, my budget means an 06/07 E60

or

An RS6 Avant, possibly slightly newer than the M5

So, any pitfalls, and is the SMG really that bad in the M5?

no other direct rivals other than the Merc e63 if you want a wagon.

Can see myself wrapping one of those round a tree judging by the number of close calls my mate has had in his over the last few weeks!

Does it have to be an M or an RS?
You could get a BMW 535i a lot newer and with less running costs than an M5.

I want something that I'm gonna want to get out and drive daily, much as I do with the Zed, but that I can also go to the cash and carry in, so yup M or RS will I think do that..

Nice looking car, good price too, BUT it's black... A colour I don't want..

Or you can buy my 40d which I will sell for either an X5M or Cayenne

Probably going to be over my budget due to the low miles..

What audio system does it have? Active Xenons, std cruise with braking?

Mike

Yeah, valued at 24k so probably above what you want. Will put it up at 24.5 when I put it up for sale.

"Only Carbon black car without swirl marks" :D

The RS6 is great, but you need a warranty with that though. Audi bills are scary and there is no concept of goodwill at Audi if it goes pop.

Got to be the RS6 avant all the way....they're uber when fully blacked out.

Must admit, I'm VERY taken with this, which is only 15 miles away from me. Quite like the "debadged" look...

And I think it's a bit of a bargain @ £19,990 with 90k miles and a full history..

mmm.. 572bhp and AWD  :driving:

Doubt I'll get a warranty at 90k miles on a 9yr old car, well not one worth the paper it's written on. TBH, the bills don't scare me, parts prices are much of a muchness these days, it's the associated labour that can be crippling, but then I'm reasonable handy with the spanners

Is that rear wiper resting on the boot off the glass?

90k miles would have me wearing nappies whilst driving it though.
