decision time again ! ( Part 2 )

Well after a couple of sleepless nights agonizing over whether I should sell the zed or night I have come up with a cunning plan :D

I'm going to SORN the zed for the time being until later in the year - as I've just paid the insurance ( it was only £106 ) I'll leave it insured - if I do decide to sell I can always tax it for a month to cater for test drives - at this this way I'll still own it :D

Interestingly the insurance for the Focus ( also 8 years NCB ) is £174 with the same Company ( Saga ) - a family car v a motorised torpedo - why is that ?

Ironically it's only cars that I'm so indecisive about ( at least I think I am ) - I'm fine with making decisions on any other issue - reckon I am crackers

I was going through the same "do I sell dilemma" (although mine isn't as low milage as yours and i've thrown a few quid (£3K?)into it during the 2 years of ownership on upgrades and tidying it up); but having got it out of the garage for it's annual MOT i'm keeping it.

reason's i'd sell:
1) i'm broke and i need the money in the Z4 ~£7K?
2) i want something else and need the money in the Z4 - Z4M? its tempting

Having been for a blast, i remembered how much i enjoy driving it and actually how little it costs to keep, please forgive the man maths here:
* Insurance ~£150pa (you are older wiser so it's cheaper)
* Tax £220ish (you can SORN if you are not using it i.e. free)
* MOT £45
* Service every couple of years £150 pa
* Depreciation pa: probably not that much now
* Fun: priceless although tyres and fuel hurts if you are giving it right foot everywhere

So even if you were to not drive it it's costing you about £300pa or £25 pm - i p**s far more up the wall than that a month and have nothing to show for it: much rather cut back on that than give up the car if it came down to it..

Even if a car is SORNed, you still want to have it insured anyway... (fire, theft, damage etc.)

It is insured according to Gov :?

Yes - as I said my insurance for this year is only £106 ( SAGA ) so I'll leave it for the very reasons given - still can't understand why the Focus is
so much more with the same NCB ?

Going to pick up the Focus next week so will wait till then before I SORN the zed - I'll also transfer the PP on to the Focus so that should I decide to sell some time in the future it will have the original plate - by keeping it I will always have the option of Desorning it if I choose - the main reason for keeping it is it would be virtually impossible to replace in it's originality and mileage - felt this way about my previous car ( Lotus Elan ) - always regretted selling it - I know it's not an investment but it's unlikely to depreciate much while it's under cover in the garage - strange reasoning I know but there it is :?

I just meant that people shouldn't cancel insurance if SORNing - sorry if I was unclear

It's probably more to insure the focus as they're involved in a lot more accidents than zeds-there's millions of the things around :o

Guess I should be excommunicated , tarred and feathered for buying a Focus - in my defence it is to be my DD - but saying that implies I have a weekend car which technically is true even if it is under cover in the garage
