Decided to treat myself

Yep, precision castings by the looks.

Either I will ask MM or get something sorted at work.

Thanks

So likely the French part will work well for some systems and not others. I'm sure a Monkey part would be better than all of the above :)

Remus boxes, 007

Beedub, it's underneath the car mate :D ! I do hear what you and 007 are saying about adjustability though. If my back boxes didn't hang symmetrically or weren't reciprocating the curve of the rear bumper it would annoy me and I would spend the extra money for something better too.

thats like a saying dentist saying i don't need to use proper materials on your back teeth, because they can't be seen. Imo you do things to certain standard, whether that can be seen or not - particularly on a high end valuable vehicle, each to their own, if your happy then job done... Just saying that not everyone has to share the same outlook either thats what makes the world a wonderful place.

That it's under the car was my response to your comment about the way it looks...besides, the OEM part isn't any nicer to look at, just different. Agreed, if the cheaper alternative falls short, then the OEM or a more expensive part should be used. I wouldn't compromise either, but I am happy to use a part that meets the necessary criteria and isn't under-engineered when it is something a simple as this. The quality of the part I've used is more than up to the task - mine has been on for years and stands up to very hard use and allows the tailpipes to sit as they as should. To buy a more expensive aftermarket part in this circumstance is more like asking your dentist if you can pay double for the work he's done as surely that will make the filling last longer :P

Besides, you know my teeth have all broken from driving my ///M over a pothole or two :D

lmao!! dentist analogy seemed apt with our teeth removal CS setup!

Yep - way beyond fillings I'm afraid

Have you used yours in anger yet this year? I should be doing my first track day next week and I've already fitted my semi slicks in anticipation :trampoline: I thought I might scrub off any surface oxide layer that's formed since last autumn before cornering at the limit on the track

Where are you off to? I'm hoping to get out on track somewhere next week also so might join if not too far? Combe is my local... Just slapped on a set of 595-rsrs to try out on the 224s also! £360 for the lot, I thought worth a punt. Used them before on my 968CS and they were pretty good I thought though that car probably weighed 100kg less

no not yet but now that the weather is picking up its coming for sure!! absolutely in love with those dampers however, quality just oozes from them, type of thing id expect to see on Gt3's and the like....

It's on! Sounds immense. Little bit boomy between 1800-2000 but I have heard that will settle. Lots of overrun crackles, aggressive sound. Glad I didn't go for anything louder though!

Old clamps were being held together by rust, both sides were snapped.

I considered the Federals that you've fitted but I read some reviews about them cracking at the welds or even delaminating, so plumped for Nankang NS-2Rs in the soft compound (treadware index 120) on staggered 18" wheels. The yellow stripe wasn't my choice - they're second hand wheels

I've kept standard road tyres on my 224s for wet days (IIRC I have PS2s or F1 asymmetrics fitted at the moment). The Nankangs aren't as good as the R888s I have on my Westy, but that car is over 900kg lighter!

I'm going to start the year gently on an airfield day, probably Abingdon next Friday depending how work pans out.

Agreed, absolutely awesome

Sorry for the thread hijack OP. Thanks for the photographs - always good to see other cars especially with new shiny bits added :D

Shall do. I did a couple of track days using them last year but at the first they still had release agent for half of it and the second was a bit chilly and damp. Overall, I was impressed but I'll review them properly including comparisons with my Westy on the same track, same day on R888s.

If you go to Abingdon drop me a PM. and if i can get a parking space at work i will pop over and say hi.

I cant sign up for the day as i dont have the holiday. And the car is well not ready yet!!

Quick update - the drone at 2k and the resonance at 3k was irritating me a bit so I put some vibration dampening material between the exhaust hangers and the car, and dynamat in the boot and I'm much happier with it.

Only odd thing I'm noticing is that the outer tips seem to get much blacker than the inner ones - is this normal for Stromungs?

Somehow missed this thread. I had the same problem as you when i went to fit my Stromung exhaust. I temporarily bought a Pug clamp and I managed to adjust the position of the silencers easily so never got round to buying the ones from M3Cutters.

Yeah mine do that, strange isn't it.

I getdrone under load between 1800rpm to 2000rpm, but no resonance at 3k, might be a roadster vs coupe thing.

Great value isn't it and I love the deep throaty sound, the crackles and pops get better with miles :)

It's normal for aftermarket boxes since most exhaust gases go through the outer tips on a straight through design. You'll understand why if you see a cut-out of the piping (the angle of the piping favors the outer tips prior to the Y-split - basically, it's a straighter path for the gases to exit the outer tips). My Remus does somewhat of the same thing.

To resurrect this, I noticed that one of my exhaust flanges had gone completely when one side of my backboxes dropped lower than the other. As I'm keeping the car for the foreseeable future I decided to go for the more expensive stainless steel option as supplied by Andy on M3 Cutters. I'm very impressed with the quality of these and even my BMW main dealer mechanic who did the work as a homer is a convert. He advocated the Mini diesel (Peugeot) clamp for the cost saving but conceded that the stainless steel flanges are a better long term solution. Each to their own but this was the best way forward for me. £120 for the flanges, £15 for the sealing rings and less than a fiver for the nuts and bolts.

My car is a 2006 and if this hasn't effected you yet it will eventually.

Looks very nicely constructed. I'll have to take some photos of my pug clamp next time I'm under the car. It'll be interesting to see if it's significantly corroded a few years down the line.

So is it worth buying some of the Pug clams to have in the car 'just in case' ?

I'm guessing corroded clamps would be an MOT failure
