decided on my next car

Great presence even now after 9yrs & you are right about the noise 8) intoxicating as is the torque & ballistic feel when you gas them .
Pricey parts though  very very pricey compared to Z stuff

Mine stayed 6 months & cost me £1200/£1500 & it was 60k all dealer history 1 prev owner .
My indy said all mk1's are the same with a lot of new & trial wiring / parts etc . His advice when i said i loved the car but couldn't deal with the constant bills was to go for a facelift after 07 ? I didn't though i bought a Zc instead :P

Here mate , this was my parting post from the US based 6 series forum :D

That is tasty mate :) I keep looking at my Z cash & then at E46 M3's knowing it will all end in tears but ???????? They are nice
especially this one http://www2.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201308078200606/sort/default/usedcars/price-to/7000/model/m3/make/bmw/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/onesearchad/new/page/4/postcode/bb120hr/radius/1501?logcode=p

Probably on a par for costs of parts but would expect the M3 to be more reliable ? Then again there are known subframes issues & of course SMG problem's that soon hit £2/£3k to fettle

In the words of Miss Cilla Black, "So ye didn't ge ron then" :D

  its kinda funny now looking back but the total shutdown of the car on a busy roundabout in town at peak time just blew the whole dream  it literally went from running to all dash lights to total shutdown within minutes . Even the hazards wouldn't work :o
Unfortunately for the 6 it followed almost 2 years of total porsche pleasure with insignificant expense on either 911 so that didn't help the equation's .
That said the V8 6 is an awesome machine that i would love to go back to one day , just not sure i ever will

wow, not for me haha but still wow

Horrific!! Ruined a good car.

As for the 6 series- if you can afford one (as in buy in outright) then go for it and put a few quid aside each month for repairs- these were 60k cars and can't be that fragile or there would have been more recalls and bad press. Like any car buy the best you can afford and avoid bottom of the barrel abused cars.
