hi all , recentally bought a 3.0i SE auto ,,,, and was interested in getting a decat on the exhaust , i understand that there are two sets of CAT'S on the system 2 front and 2 rear and took to a local exhaust place and they quoted £120 to remove the back 2 , anyone had any experiance with doing this and would it spoil the tone of the exhaust or improve any idea's or any advice mucho appriachiated .adam

Adam, welcome to the greatest Z4 forum this side of Andromeda. We come in peace, resistance is futile. :D

btw, I don't have a clue as to our zeds having 4 catalytic converters. That is, of course, assuming I knew what you were asking about. :?

No idea on removing cats, but it would likely fail the UK emissions test unless you replace it each time

Removing the cat can make a car sound awesome, or a little to much like a big fart.
Which you wont know til you do it. :D
CJ is right you will need some temporary cats to put back in at MOT time. Did the quote account for this, so you could put them back in?

just had to remove a de-cat pipe on girlfriend's MGF today due to MOT being up. Pain in the arse to remove and refit every year, but worth it for the sound difference (on the MGF anyway...)

As far as I'm aware you only have 2 cats but 4 oxygen sensors. The first set of sensor readings dictate your fuel mixture and the secondary's monitor the emissions. If you remove the cats you will trigger the check engine light because the emission readings will be above the max tolerance level. To avoid this you will need to fit MIL eliminators of one type or the other and you will definitely fail the MOT without any cats! I fitted 100 cell cats which open up the exhaust flow and keep me borderline legal. Best compromise IMO.
