Nice and simple

I am thinking of debading my 2.5si Sport Roadster.

Should I do it?

Never understood the concept of de-badging. If cars came without badges, people would be putting them on. :?

The concept is that it looks cleaner, IMO.

I removed the ///M badge on the rear of my Z4MC, because it looked like a total after-thought. I think it looks a lot better without the badge cluttering up the rear end...

Bare would be my description!

Usually, people do this to hide the fact they've got a lower model than is available. People who have the highest model and do it are just being pretentious!

Fair enough. I quite like the cleaner look without the badge on mine though - but as always, looks are very much a personal thing.

LOL! If you say so matey...!?

I would hardly say it was tricky to tell an M from an non-M without the help of a badge though. The quad-exhausts, bonnet darts, lower suspension etc all give more than enough visual clues.

Anyway, you've changed your tune a bit? Weren't you telling Zee42 to remove his badges only a few days ago!

Yes, stripe the roof (and loose the badges).

Each badge is a focal point on the vehicle. By removing them, it allows your eye to view the complete form of the vehicle without interuption.

Six... You missed his spelling. He ment to loosen them. Hence the two O's. IF he wanted to tell him to remove them he would have said lose the badges. So as you can see his point of view remains the same.

I'd de-badge as it does allow the eye to follow in a smoother fashion.

Incidentally, how difficult is it to de-badge - thinking of doing so on my ///M?

Very easy.. depends how new the car is and thus how long the badges have been on there, but a bit of warm/hot water, and a length of dental floss or similar behind the badge will work it loose :) (not lose ;) )... :D

The Z4 has plenty of surface detail in the body lines alone. The silly chrome/plastic doodads muck it up.......shave 'em I say. :driving: :driving:

I don't think you understood his post in that thread. I don't mean to speak for him but my guess would be he was referring to the additional badges on the grill, not the normal badges on the car.

Personally I voted "no" in the poll.......not that it matters to me what others do to their cars really......

If I could debadge without a lot of hassle, I probably would for precisely the reasons 561 mention. Subjective I know, but I absolutely adore the lines and flow of the Z, and badges just ruin the flow for your eye. As they are not very simple to remove, I leave them on. Quite frankly my dear, I don't give a damn!

Removing the badges off the top trim model makes the car more of a "sleeper." Unfortunately, with the lines on our cars the way it is, I don't think you could truly "sleeper" the car out in any way. It's just a pure attention grabber!

And what is wrong with bare! We're born that way. If the goal is to trick people into believing that you have a higher end car than get the badges that go with the higher end car. They are inexpensive. I have a 3.0i and took them off including the z4 from the boot but if I had an ///M I'd also take them off. Count the number of roundells, ///M logos, etc on the car. How many reminders do you need to tell you what you have? I think that they detract from the lines of the car. I also happen to like the flame edged of whatever they call it. It sets the car apart from the miatas, s2000s, etc. I'm also looking into changing or modifying the side marker roundells.

Mine had a new wing fitted at some point before I got it, but they never replaced the badge so I had one side with, and one side without :D

Debadge 8) I've removed my side badges

After reading Sixspeeds comments about the rear badge, i think that may dissapear this weekend too 8)

The car has enough curves and details - the badges dont do it for me.

Fire, the badges are dead simple to remove. If you can start an I.V. you can take the lettering off in a jiffy......or maybe enfield will drive down and do it for ya. :D

Oooh - what ideas did you have?

My mate that helped me with the roof change wanted to do something with them as he hates them. I see his point, though I don't hate them enough to change.. yet.

He said if I got him another set of side-repeaters etc, he was going to modify them to remove the big BMW badge, and flush-fit some kind of opaque halo, that could be lit up, a lot like an angel-eye sidelight.... sounded good! lol But a lot of effort too..

Agree about the side repeaters - there are too many BMW badges on the car. Front, Rear, Wheels, Repeaters....

Just had a look at the rear end - Z4 badge off in the morning :D

I tried to take the central rear BMW badge off my car to replace it with an Alpina one but it must be held on by magic or something because I couldn't shift it. Any advise?
