Murderers, peedos and rapists have no place in a civilised society but our civilised society says it is ok to let them roam the streets.

I remember a case a few years ago in Scotland where a convicted peedo and murderer had been given day release to go see a sick relative, he was let out with no escort, he went from the jail directly to a school, abducted a 13 YO girl, raped her, then strangled her, then made his way back to the prison, the prison Warden actually said on TV, we can't get it right all the time. :o :o :o
In my opinion that warden should be doing time for that. and that little girl would still be alive today had the justice been carried out the first time.
Just my opinion, and as OG says I hope people can respect that.

There would be alot more innocents still alive today if we did have the death penalty due to Murderous twats being allowed back onto the streets

Just how many murders are committed by someone who's previously murdered and been released?
I'd guess an extremely small number tbh.

Many people would argue that one innocent sent to the gallows is one too many, I say one convicted Murderer released who again murders is one too many.
I am not saying that if you murder you should get hung, every case is different with different circumstances, Original governer said that alot of the time its a close family member and it is done in the heat of the moment, thats manslaughter not murder. Each case would have to be judged individually and not on a broad brush stroke type trial. Those States in the USA that have the death penalty, not everyone who is convicted of Murder is sentenced to death. I am fully aware it is not a deterrent, but lets face it, neither is prison.

That right there is the issue IMO. If a third option on the poll was "No to death penalty but much "harder" prison terms" I'd imagine the number voting yes would go down.

Assisted suicide is classed as murder as well, so you have to be very careful in the conviction of murder.

DNA is indeed very accurate, but can also be planted so is not always the 100% proof you need. The other side does work, i.e. if you are convicted and your DNA is NOT there, that is enough to release you.

Would you not prefer to see someone suffer instead of a quick way out?

Some of these monsters should be made to suffer, I could go into some of the things I'd recommend, but I am a very sick minded individual, so wont, but definately, a quick way out is too good for some of them.

The death penalty is not a quick way out, They are not taken from the court and hung, they spend years on death row before sentence is carried out, put yourself in that situation Locked in solitary for years knowing that one day that cell door is going to open for you for the last time.
As for harder sentencing as oppose to the death penalty, not for me, different if Prison was was a punishment, but these days it isn't. Playstations, pool tables, computers, 3 square meals a day. Why should the taxpayer have to pay for that when a length of rope is about £5 and is reusable.

By harder sentances I meant the prison environment being harder rather than longer terms.

I quite fancy the slave labour part, all great buildings and projects in the past have been built using that.

With the cost of paid for labour nowadays, nothing great can be achieved any more. That would be a solution to avoid getting loads of immigrants doing the cheap(er) jobs as well.

Give me both and you can have my vote as long as a life sentence means exactly that.

Bread and water,
Left in cell for 23 hours a day,
no entertainment at all. this includes books, mags etc, just them and four cold walls, no bed or bedding. and for the rest of their lives. then yes I would be a bit happier with the judicial system.

I think if we did bring the death sentence back then it should only be meted out if there is a conviction 'beyond a shadow of a doubt' which we can rely on being the case these days. If we can't then they shouldn't be killed until such time it has been proven undoubtedly.

Don't forget that the leagal burden for conviction is 'beyond reasonable doubt'. That means that all convictions have met the criteria you mention, yet still mistakes are made from time to time.

I would be in favour of the penalty for some offences if there was a way of being 100% sure - maybe DNA? But not for cases that are 99% sure.

YES YES YES, I love this!!!! I like your style!

69% of 96 people voted yes.

Whether you agree with it or not, you choose to live in a democratic society, if this did ever come up for a referendum then the Majority of us would be happy with it, But as we live in Britain we have to live by the way the minority think, and not just for this but in many many other aspects of life.

A car forum isn't entirely representative of the electorate as a whole although I do take your point. I personally wouldn't vote for anyone who proposed to introduce it that's for sure, no matter how much I liked the rest of their manifesto.
