Dealers, you have to laugh..

I agree with the sentiment, but looking at it from the other side... If you can afford a £40k car then spending and extra £20 on a short aerial shouldn't be beyond you... And youre just as tight as them expecting it to be thrown in. The whole dealership has profit margins to hit, and you're just one of thousands of customers expecting a wee bit here and a wee bit there.

Just sayin'

No that's a good point Bing, as you say every customer wants a freebie it mounts up. Fair shout.

Reading that back John, it's a little harsh - I'd want a freebie too, it's in my blood much like Angie :P Just an alternate viewpoint, and you did say it was petty in your first sentence, I guess I have my opinionated head on today :D

Tell you what Bing we'll call it one all and shake on it ok? Tbh still niggling me that crass comment I made after the rugby about 'typical Scot', it was totally made in jest and banter but I think it did'nt come across like that and was clumsy to say the least. Things can get a bit mis-interpreted on the written word.

Thanks for the post Wyldie and Stark, all food for thought. :)

Just mention to them if they would like you to give all top ratings on the sale when you have the phone call or email from the manufacturer. They have to reach a certain level with the points you award the garage. You will soon find a few bottles in the boot.

Had'nt thought of that Rhys, I'll wait for the call, but as Stark is saying it's a sign of the times that it's all so clinical nowadays which is a shame. Ah well it does'nt really matter, especially when there's so much awful stuff going on like the plane crash etc. It's nice to get people's views and opinions though, they are appreciated.

I got a free touch up paint when the dealer messed up my private plate transfer. Well, not really free as I had to pay £15 to Admiral to change the plate for a second time.

I did get the "50th" Anniversary coffee cup set, but think that is a manufacturer gift. For the model I had to fight, and after much sighing etc I got it. I was expecting one of those lovely big models like I have for the Z but no, it was such an embarrassing one that it is still in the box somewhere in a cupboard.

The dealer told me that private plate transfers can now be done immediately at the dealers, when they are taxing the car.Only came in last week. Will save a lot of hassle.

We are talking about a company that thinks prematurely snapping road springs is not their problem.

john-e89, I'd already forgotten about that mate, not sure I was even too offended at the time... it's all good :D

The dealer I bought the iS from was very good to us. I have to say that even after the discount (which was very generous) we still got flowers and swapped a cap for an umbrella.

To date I now have a collection of gifted BMW umbrellas and various keyrings from dealers.

March 1st we picked up 2 cars from the dealers (long day). An Evoque and the Z4. We had done excellent deals on both cars so I wasn't concerned with any extras / freebies. Contrary to how I expected this to go.

1) The LR dealer was just as good as the BMW dealer and he did the handover himself (extremely well). The BMW dealer (excellent) handed over to a "Genius" who didn't really impress me at all.

2) LR threw in a beautiful bouquet of flowers for the better half, hidden in the boot for her to find when she opened it.

3) The BMW dealer gave us a terrible mug (useless) and a BMW Thermos flask type coffee holder (we don't drink Coffee / tea in the car).

4) The BMW dealer did give me £50 towards the Gtechniq detail because we didn't use their detail service. Very nice touch.

Overall both dealers scored very highly.

Have to say I was very unimpressed with the modern keyrings. Over the years the quality of the leather BMW use has dropped (also the same with the folder for your cars documents / manuals) and now the enamel plaque is plain, just a BMW symbol and a space where the dealers name used to be.

It's the small things that make an experience. I'm really not sure that BMW saving a couple of quid here does them any favours.

No all credit Bing you didn't take offence thankfully, it niggles me though, i'm always up for some light hearted pee taking and banter both ways but it's another thing to insult someone's nationality and while I didn't intend to as I 100% do not have any predjudice against the Scots I felt i'd overstepped the line especially as we don't know each other, even if no offence was taken, so it's good to get it off my chest tbh.

Thanks for the post above, much appreciated.

Ah flowers would be good, take them home for the gaffer, might melt her frozen heart, a few weeks ago.."Have a look at this dearest, this is what it'll look like",
"Don't like the interior, silly red colour"
"Thank you dear"

Shoot me, shoot me now...

My very first car gave the best 'freebies' when picking up, CD changer, mini knitted jumper, mini t shirt and mini cap and two weeks later when I turned 18 2 dozen pink roses from the dealership.

John, don't worry it'll be fine. I'm not sure when I got one of my E88s if it had been someone with my car or someone else with another car. I had a scraped wing but so scraped it was down to the undercoat and the rear bumper had been scraped. I left it with them and picked it up a few days later, they hasn't fixed the bumper and had used a 'chip stick' and one coat to fix the wing so after explaining not even I would fix it and that I would at least layer it and polish it until it was matched they had it back and took it to the body shop but they pain there was the body shop was only 4 miles away but the dealer was 16 miles away and they insisted I took it to them and then pick it up from there.

Needless to say I looked elsewhere when I was buying a new car :) and I wasn't disappointed.

Nictrix i'd like to draw a line under this mate, i'm not sure if you're joking or not by the sad face after your thread but I think I've made myself clear to Bing, who has understood me, so that's it tbh.
