Dealer Price matching

Morning!

So my nearest to work dealer, BMW Sunningdale is quoting me £211 for an oil service on my 3.0si.
This is after me quoting them £161 which i got from BMW Oxford - and Sunningdale said they cannot get close to this price.

Is there anything else i can do or say? I ideally want to stay with Sunningdale as they have seen my cars and this one before and carried our warranty work - plus all the convienence.

Feedback appriciated and if our resident Dealer member can do anything - that would be great!

Thanks
Jamie

Jamie, if they won't move on a simply oil service they don't deserve your business.

How far away is the other dealer?

Tell them you would rather stick with them and ask if they can get anywhere near it? Did Sunningdale quote you the 4+ price?

I'd ask them why it's relatively expensive, and get them to do a breakdown of the costs.

A simple guess here is that Sunningdale are charging you a full hour labour for the job, whereas Oxford are charging the actual time it's taking. Which is pertinent when the technician isn't usually working on your car for the amount of time listed anyway, as he'll be doing another job whilst yours is draining (or checking your tyres/brakes for 'sell-ons' when you've still got 20,000 miles left in them).

Don't forget that some dealers are putting the SI reset on as a separate charge to make the oil service look slightly cheaper when it should be an all inclusive price.

You'll also save a few £££ if you can supply your own oil, as the dealer may be charging £15/litre (or over £90 for your car for oil alone).

Only you can say whether the convenience is worth the extra £50, as you'll have to factor in the extra fuel costs of getting to Oxford (2 gallons or £12 each way?).

Jamie if your car is in warranty then its not an option, but if its out, then theres that indi at Didcot.....2-3 members (Pawnsacrifice being one I think) have used them with very good reports....

You can find them here ...

They can choose to match if they want to.

I had a similar situation with my Seat Leon. Due a major service and cambelt. My usual Seat Dealer = £1,250! I was expecting £700 ish so I phoned around. Best price I got was £750 also from a Seat Dealer for exactly the same work. My local said they couldnt come in that far but could do it for £900. I said sorry, they lost out this time but Id be back next year. A couple hours later I get a call saying 'Ive checked with my manager, actually we're not that busy and any business is good. We can match'.

So for the sake of about £2 of phone calls and a 120 minutes, I saved £400.
