Hi everyone

My car is due it's inspection 2 soon. It has a full dealer service hsotry. Personally I am more comfortable with a sell regarded Indy looking at my car than a dealer. The car is under the Bmw extended warranty however.

Does anyone have any experience of local Bmw dealers to Leeds? I read that the dealer is ? Halifax / Wakefield is quite experienced with the s54 engine?

Equally and independent recommendations? I don't mind travelling?

I think I'd rather have a experienced Indy who sees a few older M's than a local dealer service the car (I presume they see fewer?) - but would be keen to know people's opinions - the only thing that ways me towards a dealer is it would be easier to facilitate any warranty work that may be needed.

Opinions appreciated!
Thanks very much!

i see no reason these should see the dealer now days, pick a decent indie and watch them like a hawk from my experience even the best of the crop will cut corners on certain things if you really don't know your s**t.

ask for shim reports, all gaskets to be changed, and video of the internal top side of your engine.

My mate swears by a chap in I think in Mirfield for his E46 M3 cant remember the name though but can find out later on for you if you don't get a better answer

BNTEC in hull , hulls only verified independent BMW specialist, fair prices ( cheaper than stratstone ) and one of the owners/ mechanics as an m roadster :D

The 3 owners all worked for stratstones , then thought stuff it we will set up our own business 10 years ago they've worked hard to build the business up over the ten years as a genuine dealer alternative

Taking both of those points into consideration, 100% stick to dealer network. Servicing has been reduced for older models now as well.

I would recommend two, Peter Van der Veer in Marsden and Anthony at The BM Workshop in Leeds. Careful with the Leeds one, as there are 2 with similar names. Website links below for both. Both are very good independents and the local Huddersfield BMW dealer has been known to call Peter for advice !

I've used Huddersfield BMW for the past 8 years and never had any major issues with them

Pricing is steep (like any main dealer) but Mark usually sorts me out if I ask.

As Kammy says, Peter Van Der Veer comes highly recommended if you can get out to Marsden.

Not sure of any in Leeds

Thanks for the replies and advice.

I'll most likely use Huddersfield for the inspection 2. Have read good things about Peter Van der Veer in Marsden and Anthony at The BM Workshop too, so will use them for any smaller jobs. I guess another benefit of using dealers is the use of courtesy cars.

I use B&M Care (http://www.bmservicing.com/) in Pudsey for mine and had good experiences. I've had MOTs, oil changes, brake fluid, inspection 2 and diff seals done there, always been happy. The only issue I've ever had was that they changed the brake fluid when it wasn't due this year, when I noticed & queried it they were fine, just credited my account and it came off the next bill.

I have nothing good to say about my experiences with Stratstone BMW in Leeds or Harrogate, and Bradford never even phone me back.
