Dealer diagnosis

A week after buying my Z, the brake, ABS and DSC yellow warning lights came on, went off the next day, came on the next day and stayed that way for a week. It's booked to go back to the dealer tomorrow under warranty.

Yesterday the lights went off. Do I need to wait till they come on again before taking it to the dealer?

No, the fault will have registered and the dealer will be able to see the code with his code reader

The error codes should still be in the memory BUT dealers are very good at not finding these things when they put cars on diagnostics, so be warned if they 'can't' find anything wrong you'll be hit with a bill for around £100 for the diagnostics.

Unfortunately that's how it works these days.

Thanks, that is what I was hoping, especially as they have arranged to come and pick it up. Fortunately(..?) the lights have just come back on.

I bought it from a specialist dealer. It comes with their own in-house, 3 month warranty.

Get yourself a code reader for £30 - cheaper than paying someone else to read the codes in future. And if they can't find any you can screenshot the history/what was there.

Does this apply even under warranty?

Yes if it's a AUC or extended warranty. They usually will advise you if they can't find the fault there will be a charge to you for their time investigating it.

This.

Or get yourself a £5 bluetooth obd2 dongle off ebay and purchase a code reading app from the play store, if you have an android phone.

I'm a computer whiz and do have an Android phone. However, I bought a cable from Bcables with a range of apps but it doesn't come with much guidance... I'm not sure where to start.

The lights went out again on the way home this evening..!

Firstly, in relation to your problem I'd be going back to the seller - ignore any warranty and use the Sale of Goods Act if they give you any grief, and don't pay anything upfront. The car clearly has some kind of fault, even if it's intermittent, and they are obliged to fix it.

If you've got a cable and it came with INPA use that - it should be simple enough for you to figure out ;)
You select the model then fault menu and read memory options.
