Dealer courtesy wash - Swirl marks!

I was beaten to it. It's very rare to come across a car that's been properly corrected. In fact I've never seen one!
It's more likely that it had been previously polished with a filler product which doesn't last, and again as previously mentioned, if they used a tfr that could have stripped the filler polish. I'll find you and example of how effective filler polishes are, no correction whatsoever. Just temporary filling.

really annoying my new citroen van went for som warranty diagnosis and they washed it with some sort of pressure washer and harsh chemicals which stripped off all my wax and left a black film over it , Fucking Monkeys !!! 
You need to tell them not to! Of course they'll use tfr and such especially on a van, they've probably never had anyone complain about them washing their van free of charge. You have to remember that 99.9% of people don't care for their cars properly and are probably grateful for a dealer wash.

Yes I do, although not for it's filling abilities as my paint doesn't need it. It's very hydrophobic and beads like mad but is also very durable. Protects the paint and makes it easier to wash etc. I'd recommend buying some from Nipponshine.

I'm confident that the swirl marks weren't there before as I'd clayed/polished it myself when I bought it. The previous owner had a front end refresh and so the clear coat was virtually swirl mark free, and the rest of the car was machine polished to match the finish.
Needless to say, I'll see what BMW do when I go back, and for now I've bough some of the Soft99 Fusso dark wax as the stuff looks amazing!

I also have a few pages that say "DO NOT WASH" on them.
As for Fusso, that's not your typical wax, it has amazing filling properties & lasts quite long.
In general though, wax temporarily fills/hides swirls while polishing is an actual restoring process.
Put another way, polishing removes a (microscopic) layer of clear coat to eliminate swirls while waxing adds a layer of wax for protection.
I also have a few pages that say "DO NOT WASH" on them.

I wanted to report back after the Service Manager inspected my car. He was very apologetic and asked for a bodyshop worker to inspect it with him. They suggested they could restore the finish by hand polishing, but they were busy and to phone back at the end of September.
Not confident that a hand polish would restore the damage, I bought a Maguiars G220v2 machine polisher last week and set to work on the car on Saturday. I washed it, clayed it, and used Maguiars Ultimate Compound to polish the entire car. It was hard work but I was able to remove every swirl mark, and 99% of all scratches, leaving every panel showroom fresh. I then machine polished it with Maguiars Ultimate Polish before sealing it with the Fusso Soft99 dark wax. The whole process took 10 hours, but I'm delighte with the results. I didn't even need the fillers in the polish/wax as the paint was left in perfect condition.
I took some pictures on my iPhone the following day as it was dark when I finished, but the camera doesn't do it justice. I can't recommend the Maguiars polisher enough. It was easy to use for an absolute novice, and I safely corrected the whole car - something I'd paid £500 for a professional to do with my previous 911.

I bought the Polisher on eBay for £149 with a microtowel thrown in. The Softy Buff pads are available from Eurocarparts for £10.99 inc free delivery. I wouldn't bother with the black finishing pad - I think it's just as easy to apply wax by hand. The red cutting pad and yellow polishing pads are essential though.
I wouldn't want to do it again, but it's quite theraputic!
