Dealer and DashCam

The car came back from the dealership with the BMW dash cam dismounted from its cradle- I was told that it is to protect BMW “sensitive Information”

Could they not just press the button and turn it off?

Who are they kidding? They just don’t want to risk owners seeing what they get up to or not. :D

There are lots of youtube videos from dash cams showing bad mechanic behaviour. Especially Mercs and and at Halfords. Jobs not being done or using the car to joy ride. No wonder they turn them off.

Lots are doing it, and I can understand it. I wouldn't be particularly happy for a customer to video me at my workplace either!

The only thing I ask my local specialist is to re-connect it before I pick it up, as knowing my luck I'd have an incident on the way home :P

Last time I took mine in to Sytners they asked me to disconnect the dashcam. I assumed that they didn't want me filming the illegal immigrants working there

I normally remove the cam when I take mine in to BMW but don't when I take the Kona to Hyundai and they don't touch it and don't seem fussed, in fact Hyundai always send me a video when its in for servicing to report on the car, BMW never do that yet you pay so much more, complete ripp off really.

I can see why dealers might object to their staff being filmed, I guess would you like to be filmed in the office etc?

I guess with some cams if they are hard wired then might be harder to switch off?

Can they not just hang a cloth over it?

I suggested they just stick a post it label on the windscreen!
My car was having work on the headlights- so the view of any mechanic would be very limited with the bonnet raised!

They could also have pushed a button to switch it off rather than removing it - they wrecked the last one in the car doing that!

I take mine to Lookers as the dealer is literally 100 metres down the road but they've never done a video, I'll check their website again as I'm sure they mention they do.
