Dead speakers at front left

First of all, hello everyone, this is my first post here.
I bought an '03 Z4 and when I listen a music the front left is quiet. Could it be some wire or something more serious?

Both tweeter and footwell speaker dead? (And if you have the hifi setup, the door speaker too)?

Set the fader full forward and full right and make sure it's totally gone (and don't crank up the volume too high) and not just one speaker

I don't know enough about the wiring to suggest how easy it might be to swap a few bits around to do some basic fault finding but there are a few stereo experts on the forum...

Yes they are both dead (tweeter and footwell) on that side (front only). If I set the fader to the rear it's OK.
 
Sounds like you might have lost the output of the head unit. I'm a bit lost on how to proceed. If you had a chum with a head unit you could swap in as a test it would make sense. As I said, I'm not au fait enough with the wiring to give sensible suggestions on next step. I don't know if there's a crossover unit in the line for instance.
 
It depends if the head unit has failed. There are repair kits available. I'd be happier if someone with more experience of tweaking stereo and speakers could chime in.
 
Welcome to the forum.

Is this a basic 6 speaker system or an upgrade system with an amp in the battery compartment? There have been amp failures due to standing water in the compartment.
