Dead Key help

This morning I drove my car, got out, tried to get back in to find my key had died!

Luckily I have a spare to use now. Any ideas on key costs?

Across the last couple of days I've had funny power issues. First off I was in a multistory and my power steering failed, a steering wheel style icon flashed on the dash and my clock/radio/mileage reset.

Then the next day i went over a speed bump at normal low speed and all dash lights came on, a small dip (for a tiny split second) in power before running as normal.

Is today's dead key likely to have been related?

Have you checked the battery? The car battery not the remote.

Could be a reason for the mileage re-set and maybe not charging the key properly.

i checked my battery last week while my mate had his plugged in to a battery charger. it was reading 2 out of 3 lights on the scale so i charged it up to full.

i will check it again see if its lost charge or not. but the car starts perfectly, radio roof etc all fine. no signs of a slacking battery

Think I paid £120 form bmw for a new key. You need to take in your log book and a few other bits. Best to ring them before hand to save yourself a wasted trip.!!

Your key may have lost it's synch with the car, the fault being the car, not the key. Regardless of fault, try reinitialising all of your keys before spending money on more keys.

It sounds like there's a loose or broken connection somewhere, the battery leads, ground strap, or even internal to the battery. Tracking this down can be very difficult unless you can determine a reliable way to induce the fault at will.
