Deactivate remote access

Watched a worrying programme on channel 4 last night re car theft and remote accessing. Just wondering can this be deactivated to prevent thieves using relays to intercept the signal between keys and car? It also showed how thieves use a simple device to prevent the vehicle being tracked.
I have seen in the menu that you can switch off the doors being opened when approaching the vehicle but still have it locked when walking away. Would this prevent theft though or would both features have to be disabled? Or is there more to it than just disabling both these features?

I believe you can turn off all the access unless you press the unlock button, but I believe the current BMW keys have a giro on them that stops transmitting when not moved for a few minutes to prevent relay attack so no need for a faraday cage.

Oh and don’t leave your keys visible near the front door either.
Decent locks on your house too, they’ll move on to the next one..

How sad that over the last decade car theft has gone through the roof.
I watched that dispatches program and it’s organised crime and hell every car is now a target.
I’ll just add this to the list of things that make me want to leave this country.

I usually put the keys in a faraday pouch during the night but these guys in the channel 4 programme were so blatant they were stealing them through the day. Looks like when at home it’s a faraday pouch all the time. Mine is a few years old now so hopefully they don’t deteriorate with age like me :rofl:

Any an old article, but in it they said bmw confirmed that all new cars with keyless entry deactivate after a period of inactivity.

Saying that, digital key might be an area of concern. My car is behind a gate so I’m less concerned about that.
I’m sure the thieves have multiple ways to steal cars so any additional security measures taken are not in vain.

They show a great way to test if the fob goes to sleep or not.

It definitely goes to sleep. I accidentally left my key in my last one in the centre cubby hole and it wouldn't open as there was no signal being transmitted by the key even though it was inside the car. Think it stops transmitting after being motionless after something like 90 seconds

I was aware the sensor on the handle locks it by touch (In the habit of using that in car parks and very public places) but wasnt aware it can also be used to open it. Gives me something to play with tomorrow

I quite like just walking up to it and it unlocking.
