De-icer in eye

Cleverly managed to spray a large wadge of deicer in my eye this morning. Just spent the last hour in A&E getting my eye washed out with 2 litres of saline and the biggest contact lens of all time stuck in it irrigating it. I don't recommend it. A note of caution, be careful with it.

Bet that's uncomfortable - how exactly did you manage to do it :?

 literally

And as someone who wears contact lenses i can say despite what others may think... its isnt an eyeball shield

Had successfully deiced the car..I was putting the lid back on the damn can.

Ah, well I hope you're feeling better soon

I've never used de-icer on my cars - albeit not for this reason!

I only use the BMW de-icer, which is one of those manual pump thingies. Must remember to put it in the car though as I almost never need it.

You'd have to be careful not to crack the glass with sudden temp change. It would need to be just warm enough to melt the ice but only just I would think.

You shouldn't put hot water on frozen glass etc.. the temp change may cause cracking. Additionally you're just putting more water on the screen etc which when you move off may cool and re-freeze. Best to use de-icer (away from your face!) or a scraper.

I do use luke warm water on my seals/around the doors if they are particularly frozen, but it is barely warm water if that.

well im assuming it could re freeze the water which wouldnt be ideal. depends how cold it is...might just end up with an icy driveway

and warm water freezes quicker than cold water so the chances of it freezing are more likely...

just use a scraper

Could be. Any small damage in the windscreen can tear the whole screen apart.

Likewise my housemate at uni used to poor it out the kettle straight on :headbang:

He wouldn't listen to me but then I'm not sure he cared much for his car... I've always stuck with a scraper.

I actually used water on my Polo for years like my housemate did. Lived in the Midlands then and winters were much colder and didn't have any problems with this method and water re-freezing. I haven't dared tried on the Zed yet.

Just be careful that a scraper can create scratches on the glass which you will really see on a sunny day ...
