As I defrosted my car today it crossed my mind whether de-icer causes any damage etc. I thought what better place to get an answer than here.

When deicing the car I tend to start up first and put heater on and warm the inside up a bit first. I never use a scraper on the glass but will use an aerosol deicer and spray in short burts in the centre of the screen working outwards trying not to get any on roof and paintwork, once the ice melts will check the wiper blades aren't stuck to the screen and will sweep the screen and wipe any deicer away. I'm sure it shouldn't cause any long term paint issues if used infrequently.

Maniac said:Nope... No force.. Just scraped off the ice with a plastic scraper.. Bit of grit = scratch.
You say it would never happen to you?

Yes but then I may just lock it up for days on end in fear of the climate and never drive it![]()
