De-badging technique - updated with pics

So much nicer without badges. Ordered my new X5 without them as well, saves about half a meter of plastic on the car as well with the new naming conventions.

Harsh! :(

Nah - anyone who tried it on would be very quickly corrected

Done both sides, got pics and like it a lot. However the wife's Honda has developed an oil leak somewhere and I need to figure out what to do with it, so I will post them later

Ok, here's some photos as promised, mostly for Andy :D , but I know how much 'shiny' is appreciated on here...

Before :

During (adhesive and dirt left behind...) :

After (gentle thumbnail to remove adhesive, baby wipe, Megs, dodo juice) :

Somehow I managed to focus on nothing in this one so it's a bit blurry :

Comparison shots (from different angles / distances, sorry :headbang: ):

Hope that's enough pics Andy

I really like how it looks for so little effort, as I said above - Wee Bing remarked that the diagonal flame crease looks much sharper and more visible, SWMBO was also (briefly) impressed, so job's a good 'un

Great job Bing, you wouldnt have known they were even there

Are you going to take the rear 'Z4' badges off too, to finish the look?

Much better BUT if you want my vote in the photo comp you will have to enter a de-badged version :poke:

very nice job there.

can i ask where you got your carbon bmw badges from? need some for mine but not sure what ebay stick on ones are best.

looking good
i need to do mine at some point. did u take the z4 one off the boot aswell??
also can they easily be stuck back on when selling???

Thanks guys - it's hardly a technically challenging change, but I wish I had done it sooner.

Not sure, I am quite attached to the Z4 badge on the back. Need to sleep on that one...

That is SO not fair  ... not sure I can recreate that pic, as it was nice and foggy that night, but if I get a chance I will have a go

Don't do stickers, they will just peel from what I have heard. Send an email to this guy - [email protected] - and tell him you'd like to see his brochures. He does OEM carbon badges, i.e. with all the right positional fixing points (not too cheap but good quality), or you can have non-OEM that may need dremmeled to fit. The latter are the same quality of c/f, but cheaper. His brochures have wheel caps and lots of other tempting goodies, so lock your wallet up :D

Not yet... And not sure I will...

As for putting them back on, not sure - you may need a template to get them in the right place and spaced correctly I think, and some really thin adhesive strips. I am going to keep them just in case a future buyer wants them, but tbh I don't think model deletion will be a problem for most people.

Cheers for the comments guys :)

Just kidding,it's a winner

It's all good :D

You've got a point though, it is time I took some new pics as that one was taken when the car was totally stock bar the stubby...

Looks good... Now you'll need to cover up the side reflectors on the front bumper... There is always more to do

I have used lighter fuel to remove any glue residue - works perfectly.

Suggest not using lighter fule as the constituent components can potentially soften the surface lacquer.

Looks fantastic - really glad when I made the decision to do this on mine.

Removing the silver text draws the eye back to the 'Z' flame.

Hey thanks for the pics mate-great job! -i dont think i would remove the rear z4 on mine as it seems to balance the lock out.
