DDM Tuning Introduces Z4 Black Out Grills, First 5 Next Week

Spoke with Jim Powell @ Apexcone / DDM Tuning and convinced him to bring in some blackout Z4 grills. I know myself and many other Z4 drivers have been dying for a quality replacement that wont chip.

5 sets are being sent over via EMS, they should arrive mid next week and 30 more are on the way shortly after. Price will be roughly 47.50$

Here is a teaser shot from the factory. I'll have shots of them on my car as soon as the first five arrive next week

Are these made from original parts? if not, what materials are used?
They don't seem that black in the pic :?

No, these are not made from OEM parts directly, they are however a replica of the OEM Z4 grills. They are made of plastic, its a very poor picture but they are in fact black. If you checkout the DDM Tuning website you can see pictures of the other blackout grills they carry for virtually every BMW. They will definitely be black, guaranteed.

The first five grills arrived today and are being shipped out! I believe all five have already been sold; but, we will have more in roughly a week and a half. Thanks Adam, James, Alex, Paul, and Chris your grills are on their way via UPS you should have tracking information as well. I'll try to get my grills installed later today and get you guys some installed pictures. But for now, here's a shot via iPhone. Not great, but better then the first picture. You guys definitely wont be disappointed with the grills.

Not at all, we ship worldwide. Give us a call and a sales advisor can get you an estimate on shipping to your location. You can also order through the website but the website has a habit of quoting international shipping inaccurately. Thanks

Backward move me thinks (unless you have a black car).

When I had my 2.5 and after hitting a pheasant and knocking one of my black grills out, I didn't think twice about replacing them with silver ones. Wasn't trying to pretend to be a 3.0 but they just look better.

Unlike Amy Whitehouse, I shall not be going back to black!

Entirely personal preference. We had a customer come in today with a silver 3.0i Z4. Has the chrome outsides with the black fins. He opted to stick with his chrome surrounds because he prefered the look. I feel blackout grills are suitable for any color and it gives the car a more aggressive appearence. :D

Totally agree. I have a Sterling silver 3.0 and have previously messed around with Photoshop on grille colour and it ruins the look. It's all about the base colour and style of Zed you are trying to create.

I'm pleased however that proper grilles are available as I hate the poor quality tape of chipped DIY lok that I see on many Bimmers

Couldn't wait till after work to put them in. Cloudy all day in San Diego and stuck with the iPhone so its not a great picture but hopefully it helps you guys that want to see what the grills look like installed. Excuse my brown, bug splattered car. The fitment is great as well and they are very easy to install, no problems.

Looks great Paul... ...I wonder if it will look good on Sterling Grey?...Hmmm...I will have to think about it..

Are these blackout grills like the factory grills in which you can remove the chrome outer rings? Meaning, is the outer black ring removable and could be swapped with the factory ring? The reason, I'm asking is because, It would be nice to have the option to go 1) full black or 2) chrome outer ring w/black grill or 3)black outer ring w/silver grill.

Shipping to UK is $85 for a $47 item. Hmm, something not right there :o

pungo: They are made exactly to OEM spec, there are two individual pieces that can be separated, outer ring (in this case black) and inner fins. The choice is yours on how you want to pair them up. Again NOT an overlay but an entire replacement unit.

pvr: Which shipping method did you choose? Not sure if I mentioned already but if you went through the website it really does a terrible job at estimating shipping cost. Your best bet would be to call in on Monday and a sales rep can help you figure out the safest and most cost effective shipping method.

Thanks

Just to be clear, I can take the chrome ring off my factory grill, take the black ring off you blackout grill and swap them around? This would give me a set with chrome rings on a black fins and black rings on the factory silver fins? If this is the case I definitely in for a set.
Thanks...
