Hi guys

I am a bit embarrassed to say this but I have a 35i with DCT which I just adore but can anyone tell me what difference there is between the settings? I know when I sometimes go to manual I see an S1 and then an M1 when I shift it and I have no idea what it all means or does so can someone explain it please :)

Thanks

Ps have no idea what the M and s stands for

And don't care ;)

Don't care but it's M for Manual and S for Sport

Re the original question, you have Drive and then Sport which kicks the revs up usually by 1k rpm, the throttle response is quicker and it generally change gear higher up the rev range than the standard drive mode. Sports plus is the same but it switches off Traction and dynamic stability control. Ideally a setting for a track.

And then well manual and you can either use the paddles or shift up and down using the drive shifter/selector. I tend to use manual after putting the car into sport as it stays manual unlike when in standard drive where it reverts back to auto after a few minutes.

Faster shifts, but I find it sounds better in normal mode shifting at high RPM because you get the pops! But on downshifts you get much bigger pops with Sport+ ! Sounds a bit "auto'y" with Sport+ at low speeds, like an old 3 series auto from the 80's, but in standard mode it sounds like a GT-R !

I have not heard any pops on down shirt, burbles yes but no pops. I do however get mighty cracks on the upshift when in D and sports +

Maybe I am shifting late. (Golf tee mod in place)

Odd, I get huge "gun shot" pops sometimes when blipping. Also most loud when in manual mode, accelerate to around 2400 rpm and then back off. One went off the other day which almost killed someone - looked like they had a heart attack there and then on the spot. Felt a bit guilty

The cracks when changing are only for me in normal mode, in Sport+ the shift is too fast

Funny how every car is different? Also with Golf tee

Yep. -, be too heavy with the throttle (too much fuel) then back off the pedal quickly. - pops and bangs. So far I've done one genuine gunshot backfire, was wasn't sure what the recipe was :driving:

In sports mode & manual rifle shots on up changes 4-5k rpm around 40-60% throttle every single time, more or less than that and it's silent. Also if I hold an even throttle around 1750-2000 then down change & lift off at the same time a lovely I get a lovely downshift crack before the burbling pops 'n bangs.

I can get boom when coming off the accelerator and crack when up shifting. Now just need to practice the downshift bang for a full set. :D

A couple of days a week I have to park my car in the works multi storey car park.

Never had so much fun driving in a car park since I got this Z4.

The exhaust pops, crackles and bangs to my delight and surprise to those on foot.

Just love this car.

I'm almost about to pull the plug on an Eisenmann race exhaust. Just a bit of an expensive mistake if it's too loud...!
