DCT Tuning Now Available

Just a heads up for the DCT users, xHP is releasing support for the DCT transmission from Monday.

From what they've said so far it will support the Z4 right away. The only features mentioned at this point at adjustable RPM settings for launch control, higher line pressures, customisable shift maps, even faster shifts and louder bangs when shifting. I suspect the delay between pressing the paddle and the gearbox shifting will reduce too as that's something they did for the 8AT but the DCT is already pretty quick with that.

Given that the same gearbox is used for the M3 GTS I'm expecting the same kind of shift speeds and noise that it produces there.

They haven't mentioned price yet, it's £135 for the slushbox so I expect it may be a little more given the DCT market typically has more to spend.

Looks interesting, but read this in the manual

"Due to the complexity of the 7-Speed Box, there is no general rule of thumb how a Stage 1,2 or 3 Map behave in your specific vehicle."...

Doesn't ramp my confidence too high..!!

Some bangs on upshift would be very welcome.
LOL ...I'm obviously in a minority insofar as I saw the reduction in pops & bangs after my remap as a positive. Maybe its an age thing but WTF does everyone want their car to sound like a firework display??? :?

Well it’s a fair point Colin....however the 35is needs some bangs on upshift if you ask me which I can only get at 4250rpm in comfort mode, very frustrating. I don’t know really, maybe with cars some of us never grow up, I’m 53 and I’ll take all the noise I can get out the thing....

It'll only be of interest to the types who like to modify and tweak a vehicle to their needs. The DCT does a good job of being both soft and seamless in traffic and shifting quickly when needed but for people like myself there's now the opportunity to make it hold gears longer regardless of modes and also get rid of certain torque limits. The beauty of this is you can choose to get rid of the DCT shifting noises altogether if that's not your thing.

It's huge news in the tuning scene but it's not going to make the front cover of the caravan club magazine :poke:

This footnote will be aimed at people with tuned vehicles. The DME and TCU exchange a lot of operating data which changes how gear changes are managed, some tunes might find the standard maps give them soft feeling shifts, the key reason being how each individual tune reports engine torque to the gearbox differently. I expect anyone with MHD will find it works perfectly as they work closely with xHP on the BMW platform.

By that I’m reading it as the main benefits are for when you have the car in auto yes..? As I drive mine 90% of the time in manual using the paddles I’m guessing this won’t make any difference in shift sharpness in manual or am I wrong..?

I only know what xHP have published so can't say for certain but I expect faster shifts in manual mode, but it's already quick. I'll buy it when it comes out on Monday and let you know if it's worthwhile for manual mode alone.

Yep thanks very much If you’re buying it I’d be very interested in your thoughts as I’m considering keeping my 35is and would get this if it improves the shifts even slightly as anything quicker is better imo.

Pretty sure I read somewhere in the manual that it improves manual shift. You can open the manual from the website and check through. The manual includes data on the DCT despite the ‘map’ not being released yet, which is good. Looking at the prices they charge already it’s way off being a good deal in any respect.

When I give mine the beans it will pop between changes but normally when the gearbox is in D and in sport mode on the button or gearbox in sport and normal on the button. But it's also not a standard exhaust and has middle boxes deleted.

Been through a few cars since my 35is, however I still recall the almost violent nature and urgency of the 35is dct shifts. Can't imagine how these feel turned up to 11 with this

Watching with interest.. selectable maps (pops when you want, none when you don't) would be pretty sweet...

like the engine maps which only add the HP in sport & sport+ modes.. would be great if the sport added the pops too :)
