DCT Software update

Anyone know any info about a software update for the DCT?

Saw this on another Z4 forum from a UK Z4 owner - 'Well after reading lots about DCT lag on the M3 forums, I decided to press the local dealership on this... they confirmed after taking my car this morning that indeed there is a software update available (announced end of December 2010) and my DCT is being reprogrammed right now. So anyone on here looking for a snappier DCT change might want to get in touch with their dealer also.'

'Twas Me :)

I have no info on this as it was done under warranty and wasn't provided with paperwork, however what I can tell you is that the DCT has not, since the update, been hesitant in D2 after coasting which previously it was, worryingly so at times. It now shifts into lower gears a tad quicker, making pull-aways after coasting much better. I think previously it was 'considering' whether to stay in D3 or shift to D2 after coasting... this took up to 2 seconds to make up its mind. No longer does it do that.

Williams BMW informed me that indeed a software update was released end of Dec 2010.

If you're not having any issues with the DCT then don't bother with the update, as it makes little difference other than to help in certain situations where gear change was severely hesitant in some scenarios.

Maniac - Thanks for your response. I guess I just find it frustrating that BMW issue these updates and then don't tell their customers about it!

It gets better than that... they actively have told the dealerships NOT to inform clients of the update because they believe the original software on the DCT to be performing 'as designed'.. and the fact it can take seconds to decide on a gear in some circumstances, is entirely normal! BMW cost control at its finest.. explains the 8% profit rise then!

My advice... if you've any weird goings on with the DCT, ask for the update.

thanks Guys, that's great news to hear that,

Excusez-moi for my ignorant newbie view, but I had perceived / thought this was poss turbo lag at first -with the engine not having enough fuel / power for increasing the revs/ turbo and therefore not being able to change down until power was delivered, really good to know this can be dealt with
