DCT oil change

My car has a little over 50,000 miles and is seven years old. I plan on keeping it a while yet. 8)

Should the gearbox/transmission oil be changed at some point?

I've been asking this question for a few weeks now with no luck getting an answer. My car is roughly the same as yours and trying to find out if it's suppose to be done or not. My last car had DSG and that needed doing every 40k.

I've emailed BMW 3 times now and they just don't reply apart from the standard "we will reply to your email within 2 working hours". I assume they either don't know or don't care.

My other question was if it had belts or chains and if they also need doing.

I'll watch here incase you get an answer. Good luck.

I was at an indy garage last week and they were talking to someone on the phone about an auto gearbox, not sure what car.
They said to the customer that they would rather not change the oil as they cannot get all the old oil out, so instead they recommended an auto gearbox specialist instead who would do the job better.

I have a family friend who has his own buisiness near Guildford and he checked my 2011 2.31 over , took it for m o t and then changed oil and filter .
Can't imagine he'd have a problem with gearbox oil or anything else .
Where are you located?

The DCT oil pan leak is a really common ailment with the BMW DCT transmission. The Z4, 1 series and 3 series forums all have plenty of reports of owners having leaking transmissions.

If you are under warranty just get it inspected and they will likely replace the sump and oil. I've had mine done recently free of charge under the extended warranty.

I recently had battery cable recall done by BMW - I think they mentioned the sump was weeping. I was so narked with them (for other reasons) I ignored it at the time. If it's on that report maybe I can get it done on the BMW Insured Warranty.

I'm sure someone will be along to question the facts behind my assumptions but I'm pretty sure all DCT equipped BMWs will have some sort of weeping. I think a lot of cars are just not checked as it's only a knowledgeable independent or BMW tech that will pick up on the issue.
I've read about users having the sump replaced yearly as the problem kept re-appearing. It doesn't ever seem to cause issues for people as I'm guessing the fluid loss is tiny.

Go search the forums, but I read elsewhere that changing the DCT box oil is not a back street garage job.
I would only trust BMW or a really good indy for that job.
