+1 on the DCT write up above - you will love it

It's all very re assuring !
The holiday will seem a bit longer this year with the new car ready when we come home - it will save me the task of washing three weeks off euro dirt off it when we get home !

Mrs K heard somebody at the dealers talk of the safety of the RF system and how/why they don't suffer blowouts !
Now they are a must have as far as she's concerned.

Yet the M cars don't run them :|

+1 on the description.

Takes ages to get used to all the ways you can play with it.

My general driving style:-

  • If I'm really relaxed, I leave it in comfort/D and cruise
  • When I need to overtake, I flip over to manual mode and then use the paddles. I don't like the down/up shifting variable to my throttle, I like to be in control of the gears to stop any sudden surges which could be dangerous on odd camber roads or wet conditions. No automatic gear changes means you have total control.
  • Sport mode for faster changes when I want to press on, enjoy the more responsiveness of the throttle
  • Sport+ when I'm feeling brave as the DSC still works, but more slip allowed. Generally this is better so you don't cook the brakes
  • Never turn off traction fully (hold down the traction button for 5 seconds), because I'm not drifting and don't see the need
  • Tend to keep it in manual most at least 70% of the time
  • I find that shifting up to 1st when I come to a stop helps stop the hesitation, sometimes it leaves it in 2nd and then when you accelerate you get this odd surge as it first changes, then steams ahead. Give it a bit of help (treat it like a manual) and you'll get on great. Treat it like an auto and you'll get frustrated. Like the SMG and SMG-II days !

Totally off topic but after a perusal of your motor on Sunday have to applaud the subtle mods you've done , the car looked & sounded great
The alloys really sat well but for me the tailpipes were just perfect , emphasised even more with the close proximity to the other 3.5s there that by comparison looked pretty weedy :o
The OEM tailpipe set up about the twin turbos just doesn't do it for me as the flagship big hitter . for one the original pipes look too small in the openings & two they are a naff shape/style (as opposed to your slash cut ones )
Jmo but if BMW wanted to stick with 2 single outlets for the 3.5s they should have mirrored the 335i set up of central under the reg plate or even better mirrored the 23i /30i twins but out of each side

 Thanks. Changing it again now as I want the sound without the drone. The mods to the OEM box didn't work as I hoped so now I'm having a completely new downpipe back stainless system fabricated. Resonator in the mid (instead of 2nd set of cats-too loud without it) and two new back boxes. Same tip design, possibly even a bit bigger (100mm vs 90mm).

Hi John,

Apparently yes, they don't even recommend you buy it themselves (race edition) - according to another forum post (when a chap called them).

That's why I'm getting something custom fabricated, takes more time, more energy, but I will be paying 1/3 the price for materials and welding which is arguably even better.
