DB9

Had a little play with a DB9 over the weekend, and beat it on the mway, ok i dropped it into 4th, but i was pulling away, our cars are awesome!

Anyone had a play with the tt-rs?

I'm quite liking them. - one with a remap - up to 400bhp is seeing 4.2, like to see that against an m6.

DB9... Still one of my dream cars.

I have said this before but just because a car is faster round a track or in a straight line, doesn't make it a better motor. DB9's are a grand tourer... Designed to look beautiful, sound fantastic and get you from A to B feeling like you're a millionaire. They do that far better than a Z4M, that's for sure!

i'm just looking at 343bhp inline six vs v12 with 470ish bhp. Oh it was a beautiful volante. I'm considering the AMV8 next year.

Good half way house is the new Z4!

AMV8 - that's on my "lottery win" list :D

Much prefer it over the DB9, although I'd not say no to either...

Hmm, well it's 1760KG so a DB9 is 320KG heavier, but he's got 130BHP over a Z4M...and tops out at 190. I doubt the owner cares though

Drove a 4.3 last year, also tempted. It's no faster than a Z4M but that doesn't matter even slightly. Nor does the crappy Volvo Sat Nav or Ford key. The horrid fuel consumption is also irrelevant. All because it looks like it does, feels special and sounds like god shouting. It's plenty quick, handles brilliantly but when you aren't in the mood it's a far better GT that the Z4M too. Brilliant car.

servicing costs and reliability are also a little worrying with some stories floating about, thats why I have some hesitation.

Yes - it sounds amazing!!

There's a black DB9 Volante around my parts and i've been dying to come across him while on a drive. Also there's a lovely Vanquish near my town and i really want to have a play with that! I reckon i could have him off the line but soon after i'll simply watch those two big fat pipes rapidly disappearing into the sunset! :driving:  It does sound heavenly though so that's not such a bad place to be actually. :D

Clearly I'm not the only one having a few confrontations this weekend.

First up was a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8. Not something I knew that existed, but apparently 420bhp and 0-60 in 5 seconds.

Managed to dispatch him but it took a little effort, unlike the Supercharged Range Rover which was easy really. Interestingly both occured around the Horsham ring road, one day apart. Something in the air in West Sussex, clearly. Not diced with an Aston though, although I suspect it's only a matter of time. :driving:

wow thats a fast 4x4!!

i was on utube last night looking up vids of the G Power M6, twin superchargers! 720 bhp wow

one was having a play with a 355, amazing pace and noise!

so's the new stage 2 Z4M kit from ESS - 550bhp.

AM's do nothing for me, Gallardo or Maserati GT next. Maybe after the SC.

I'm closely watching Gallardo used prices too. Stunning looking machines. Anyone familiar with the running costs?

I think the Astons make sense as a daily driver as they are 'discreet' somehow, just look like a posh Jag to anyone not interested in cars. The Maserati falls into that category too, though it's very big - same length as a Quatroporte. The Gallardo (or an F430) would be perfect as a second car IMO, you couldn't run one every day, way too OTT...running costs would get out of hand and a Lambo is not always appropriate transport !

Lot's, but to be expected....clutches can go at 5k-8k miles on early cars, £4k a pop from a main dealer. On later cars the clutch lasts longer, think it's called a 'gen3' clutch (?) and you can get 20-25k or so on those. Verdi the independent apparently will do a Gallardo clutch for £1700 - I was looking at the Maserati Gransport and they also come up for the same reason (clutches last 7-14k on those for some silly reason). Services every 7500 miles, about £2k a pop inc parts and VAT. Oh and the interiors do NOT seem to wear well IMO? Most 54 plate cars on Autotrader look like shiny minicabs inside...maybe that doesn't really matter!

Otherwise bloody lovely and seem to be pretty reliable...love love love the LP560-4, makes the old Gallardo look a bit dated
