As far as I'm aware, its illegal to use fog lights if its not foggy? I could be wrong :o
Rob

Always used to be illegal, unless it's changed due to DRL. Not that I ever found front fog lights blinding.

Yep I always drive with my side lights and front fogs on. For me it's better to been seen. I'm not blinding anyone.

AFAIAA it's still illegal - DRLs are not fog lights, they're nowhere near as bright...

...not that I've ever heard of anyone getting done for it but is does give the boys in blue an excuse to pull you over if they want

Fogs on when not foggy are cool, if you're 17 and in a stickered up Corsa...............IMO.

It is illegal, under I think S226 in the highway code, and people have been issued with a fixed penalty for it. Depends on how much you wind up the copper that stops you...

IMO, it just looks stupid, and don't get me started on people who insist on whacking on the rear ones at the slightest hint of rain or fog. The rules are that they should be used when visibility is 100m or less, and turned off when it clears..

Mike

Edit; found it

Rule 226
You MUST use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced, generally when you cannot see for more than 100 metres (328 feet). You may also use front or rear fog lights but you MUST switch them off when visibility improves (see Rule 236).

and

Rule 236
You MUST NOT use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriously reduced (see Rule 226) as they dazzle other road users and can obscure your brake lights. You MUST switch them off when visibility improves.

Still illegal. I run with dipped beams on almost all the time to help be seen. DRLs are in the works to be fitted.

For some reason, my Zed thinks it's dark a lot of the time and switches mine on, damn stupid position for the light sensor next to the switch if you ask me!

Mike

That sensor should only be for the instrument dimming. I find it more stupid having auto to the left of off, would be better to the right of dipped beam.

Kind of mine look like this so technically not fog lights.

More like DRL's - So acceptable.... JUST! :D

Mike

If they don't produce a patterned beam then it's fine, that they're behind a E marked lamp makes them technically not though.

I know they are two separate things, but lets face it fog lights do bugger all really anyway even when foggy. LED's probably do more.

I always drive with dipped beam on, being in a low smallish black car seems to make you hard to be seen.

Sidelights should be banned when driving as they do bugger all, although in fog people seem to think they are enough to be seen by. :headbang:

Coming from a motorcycling background I tend to run with dipped beams on - be seen be safe. If it makes me more visible just once every trip then that makes sense to me.

Would prefer drls to foglights to be honest.

I'm planning on converting my fogs to DRL's as I never use them. I am still trying to find a way to bypass the "faulty light Warning" though. If anyone has any suggestions.......
